News of the Week

Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to the newsletter for Week 4. You will be reminded of important events happening soon, like Book Week and the Feast of the Assumption. It includes interviews from children about the 1/2 Camp Experience and church activities happening in our parish. There is also a reminder about Book Week starting on 18th August with the Book Week parade
Year 5/6 - Earth Science Geology Incursion
On Tuesday 12 August, our 5/6 STEM classes were incredibly privileged to host Dr Hayden Dalton, a lecturer in Geoscience from The University of Melbourne. Dr Dalton shared fascinating insights from his research into the origin and timing of volcanic eruptions around the world.
Students explored the structure of the Earth, volcanoes, how mountain ranges form, and the different types of rocks. They had the chance to handle various rock samples and use high-powered university microscopes to closely examine real rock specimens.
There was plenty of time for questions, and Dr Dalton was generous with his knowledge and expertise. Judging by the enthusiasm and curiosity in the room, we may have a few budding geologists in the 5/6 area after this inspiring session!
1/2 Camp Experiene
Our Yr1/2 students had their camp experience night last week. During the evening they had lots of fun playing some 'old fashioned' games like hoops, elastics, knuckles and sack races.

Book Fair
This week we had our book fair in the library. There were lots of great books to purchase and some of the money spent will go towards buying great resources for our school. Not only are we doing good for our school, we are expanding our students' creativity. A BIG thank you to Glenn for all his hard work in running this years Book Fair.
Book Week
It's our favourite day of the year on Monday!! It's our annual Book Week Dress Up day. We have some great activities planned during Book Week and this will start with:
Book Week Parade - Monday 18th August - 9:00am - Come Dressed as your Favorite Book Character
Get your thinking hats on about your costume! The teachers have already planned their costumes!
We hope you all saw Mrs Sullivan's post on Monday about Isaac's (5/6C) great idea about a costume swap. Isaac's idea was to bring along any old costumes you may have at home that you no longer want or need. We have set up a rack in the Brigid Hall Foyer. Feel free to place your costumes on the rack and anyone in need of a costume is free to come and choose one. We have some ready and waiting.
At the end of Book Week we ask that any borrowed costumes are returned to the rack for next year! What a great sustainable initiative!
Congratulations to our Awards Award Winners

Feast of Mary McKillop
On August 8th we celebrated the special feast of our Parish patron saint, Mary Mackillop. Mary was a woman who believed that God loved her very much, and that God loved all people and all of creation. In 1906 Mary said: “God loves us all.”
Throughout her life, Mary tried to show others how much God loved them. She was especially kind to people; always willing to forgive those who hurt her; spoke the truth, was respectful and just. It did not matter to Mary what age, nationality, religion, rich or poor, clean or dirty, happy or sad, sick or healthy a person was, everyone was always welcome.
Feast of the Assumption
The Feast of the Assumption is the celebration of the belief that the Virgin Mary was taken body and soul into heaven after her death.
All families are invited to join the Year 3-6s at 11.30am Mass at St Brigid's Church tomorrow - 15th August.
Inform and Empower
Inform and Empower is a webinar that is on every term and it helps you learn about CyberSafety or eSafety. You get to do a Kahoot! The learning this term in Year5/6 focused on navigating uncomfortable situations. We explored strategies for being an upstander as well as how and where to seek help. We also discussed the importance of consent in online interactions.
Have a great week.
With thanks
