School Aerobics National Championships

Our Lady Star of the Sea Primary School was filled with excitement and pride this week as their talented aerobics team travelled to Hobart to compete at the School Aerobics National Championships on Sunday, August 16.
The team of seven girls earned their place on the national stage after progressing through both the divisional and state rounds earlier this year. Performing with enthusiasm, precision, confidence, and energy, the students proudly represented their school in front of competitors from across the country.
Teachers and coaches Lisa Bennett and Jacinda Tillotson, were beyond proud of their team's success and the commitment, hard work, and steady improvement throughout the year.
“We are so proud of how far the girls have come,” said Ms. Bennett. “They’ve shown resilience, dedication, and a true team spirit.”
The school aerobics program, which began at Star of the Sea in 2024, has already grown in leaps and bounds. With strong support from staff, families, and the wider community, the program has provided opportunities for students to develop new skills, grow in confidence, and experience the thrill of performance and teamwork.
Principal Catherine Blackford has been a strong supporter of the initiative. “Programs like school aerobics give our students the chance to challenge themselves, be part of a competitive team, and experience success through dedication and collaboration,” she said.
This year, Our Lady Star of the Sea added a second junior-aged team who look forward to competing in the future. Both groups are thriving on the physical, creative, and team-building aspects of the sport. The school is the first in the region to offer aerobics and looks forward to seeing the program grow in the years ahead.
For the students, the trip to Hobart was more than just a competition — it was a celebration of teamwork, perseverance, and the support of their entire school community.
