Year 9/10 Art French Impressionism exhibition

Our Year 9/10 Art students, along with a selected handful of enthusiastic Art MAP students, had an unforgettable day at the NGV International exploring the French Impressionism exhibition.

We began with a lively and engaging talk from the NGV team, who explained how this art movement completely transformed the way people saw and made art. Students took part in discussions about the art elements and principles in some of the featured works, as well as the bold techniques and subject matter that were considered revolutionnary at the time. They were curious, engaged, and eager to share their ideas.

After the talk, they explored the beautifully recreated rooms styled like the salons of the Bostonian elite — the original collectors of these masterpieces. Surrounded by the grandeur of this setting, students took their time with each work. Some amazing artists such as Monet, Degas, Sisley, Renoir, and Pissarro were featured in this beautifully curated exhibition — a rare opportunity in Australia, where few pieces from this period are held in permanent collections.

Students left inspired, with new perspectives on art history and plenty of ideas to bring into their own creative practice.
