Inquiry - Physical Sciences

This semester, inquiry is all about the sciences! In 1/2S we started things off with physical sciences - learning all about the forces of push and pull, how we use these forces and where we see them in our world.

We started looking at these forces in everyday objects and how we can push and/or pull them, like pushing and pulling our chairs. Then we spent some time discussing a pulling force we see everyday, gravity. To explore this, we created boats out of tin foil and placed them into tubs of water. We found out that because our boats were lightweight, they were able to float on the water and not get pulled down by gravity. That is until we added marbles to our boats for more weight and the force of gravity took over, pulling the boats under! As any good scientist would, we made keen observations about our various boat designs and how much weight they could hold, noting that some of our boats were able to hold more than 20 marbles!

We’ve been loving our hands on science experiments this term and can’t wait to see what observations we find next!
