SWPBS

This term, our students have been exploring the important skill of resilience. Resilience is the ability to manage challenges, bounce back after setbacks, and keep trying even when things feel difficult. Developing resilience supports both learning and wellbeing, it helps children feel confident to take risks, learn from mistakes, and approach problems with a positive mindset.
Across the school, students have practised resilience through different areas of their school day. They have:
Recognised that mistakes are part of learning and show a growth mindset.
Discussed how to react appropriately to problems and when to seek help.
Practised problem-solving, both in the classroom and in the yard.
Learned how to accept game rules, show fairness, and be supportive peers.
Explored safe and respectful choices online and in shared spaces like the library and bathrooms.
We recognise that resilience is not built in one moment, it’s developed through lots of little experiences over time. By practising at school and at home, children start to see that setbacks are opportunities to learn and grow.
Here are some discussion starters for home that you might like to try with your child:
Learning from mistakes
- Can you tell me about a time you made a mistake and learned something from it?
- Why do you think mistakes help us grow?
Problem solving
- What’s a problem you solved today?
- When should you try again on your own, and when should you ask an adult for help?
Games and fairness
- How do you feel when the rules of a game don’t go your way?
- What does it mean to be a good winner and a good loser?
Respect and supporting others
- How can you share your opinion while still listening to someone else’s?
- What’s one way you can help a friend do the right thing?
Using spaces and technology wisely
- When do you like to take a break to feel calm?
- What should you do if something online makes you feel worried or uncomfortable?
By having these conversations at home, families can reinforce the messages from school and encourage children to see that resilience is something we use every day.
Alongside learning about resilience, students have been working hard to demonstrate our school expectations and earn tokens for their house. At the end of the term, the winning house will choose the whole-school reward, the options are:
- Pyjama Day
- Extra session of playtime
- An Arts and Crafts afternoon
A Bingo game with prizes
We look forward to celebrating the winning house and recognising the resilience and effort shown by all of our students this term.
