Library News

All the News!
No prizes for guessing the headline item for this instalment of Library News: Book Week! And what a fantastic celebration it was. The library team had the pleasure of joining the Primary book parade on Thursday morning and we were blown away by the quality and variety of staff and student costumes. We were thrilled to see that several students even carried their special book with them, close to their heart, as they paraded. Thank you to all the staff and families who put in considerable work each year to make this celebration a hit and show our young people that books are special and reading is an adventure!
In the library, the team and staff from across the College and Our Place put on a number of events, including mystery readers, quizzes and puzzles, guessing games, a vocabulary treasure hunt, and a creative writing competition. On that, there is still time for students to submit their entry before the September 5th deadline! See details below:
Librarian Isobel’s Book Week displays were wonderful as usual, and this year she had a helping hand from students. Each scale on our mermaid’s tail is a little fish designed by students during craft club! Craft club continues to be a big hit, attracting around 15-30 students each Wednesday at lunch (2nd break). Clubs run in the library most breaks and continue to breathe life and excitement into the space. See our timetable below:
Finally, after threatening it for months, we’ve finally commenced our Friends of the Library program. Uptake has been fantastic and library lovers from across Primary and Secondary are in at breaks earning tokens galore (along with other perks like early access to new books!) by volunteering a little bit of their time. Not only does this help the library immensely, but our volunteers are learning more and more about the library and our collection, becoming knowledgeable ambassadors for the space and reading. The teamwork and mentorship across year levels has been particularly touching to see. Well done and thanks to our Friends of the Library!
Book Week Mystery Readers
Our mystery readers for Book Week were Mr Jimenez on Monday, Mr McCabe on Tuesday and Mr Rimes on Wednesday. Our primary students enjoyed their individualised story telling skills, and the chats after the books were completed. It was a happy Book Week!
