School of Rock

“Stick it to the man!” Those words from School of Rock will ring in my ears forever. After 184 days of rehearsals, late nights, and countless hours of singing, rocking, and laughing, our Leighland School of Rock production came to life in seven unforgettable shows. What an amazing journey, one filled with joy, perseverance, and the reminder that God gives us gifts to use for His glory.
From the first practice, it was clear this wasn’t just about learning songs or lines, it was about growing together, encouraging each other, and building something that was bigger than any of us. The Bible says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men” (Colossians 3:23). That’s exactly what it felt like. Every line, every scene, every guitar riff, every drumbeat, and every song, wasn’t just for the audience, it was an offering back to God, who gave us these talents in the first place.
Our teachers and production team cheered us on through the whole musical journey. Leighland showed us love, patience, and grace every step of the way. After Leighland not performing a musical since Matilda in 2021, being a part of School of Rock was surreal.
There were nights we were tired, voices were croaky, and band members' fingers were sore from hours of practice. But those seven shows were worth every bit of it. We brought joy, laughter, and hope to hundreds of people who came to watch, and that is worth everything. All while having a blast with our cast and crew, making new friendships and memories together.
I’ll never forget the moment the final curtain fell and we all looked at each other with the ‘I miss it already face’. Everything we had been working for, for the last 184 days had come to an end. We were so proud of the outcome. We knew God had carried us, strengthened us, and let us shine His light through something as simple (and as awesome) as a musical.
So, thank you Leighland, our executive leaders, teachers, production staff, parents, and everyone who believed in us. You gave us more than a show. You gave us a family, a chance to grow, and a stage to glorify God.
And now, in the words of Dewey Finn and his class, “We are the School of Rock! And SCHOOL IS OUT!”
