Principal's Report

Welcome Back to Term 3!

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support

Our school prides itself on teaching students expected behaviours, in line with our school values - Ambition, Compassion, Creativity and Courage. This week, we have seen our students return to school with such Ambition, displaying such impressive skills in organisation and focus.

Out Tree already has 14 Birds on its branches, so I'm sure we will be seeing a Celebration Day within a few weeks of Term 3! Congratulations to all our students for returning to school ready to embrace challenges in their learning, and challenging themselves to achieve their best (two of the expected behaviours on our SWPBS Behaviour Matrix).

While focussing on Ambition, we have noticed that many students have been arriving at school without supervision, before 8.45am. A reminder that Yard Duty supervision only commences at 8.45am, and any students at school prior to this should either be supervised by a parent/carer, or in TheirCare Before School Care.

Premier's Reading Challenge

What wonderful reading our students have done over the holidays! Congratulations to so many students for adding so many books to their Premier's Reading Challenge lists over the term break! A special shout-out to 5/6B and 1/2A for adding over 200 books per class!

NAPLAN Results

Families of Year 3 and Year 5 students will receive their child’s NAPLAN results this week.

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) is a national assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It assesses foundational skills in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. These assessments are intended to provide a snapshot of how students are progressing in these key areas, compared with national benchmarks.

While NAPLAN can offer useful information about aspects of your child’s learning, it’s important to remember that it reflects how your child performed on one particular day, under formal test conditions. It does not capture their creativity, effort, sense of humour, kindness, or the many other wonderful qualities they bring to school each day.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 3 and 5 students. They approached the assessments with ambition, courage and determination—qualities that matter just as much as academic outcomes. Sitting formal tests can be challenging and sometimes worrying, especially at a young age, and our students did a fantastic job of showing up and doing their best.

If you have any questions about your child’s NAPLAN results or would like to discuss their progress more broadly, please don’t hesitate to contact their classroom teacher.
