Secondary Bulletin – Term 3 Update

Welcome back to Term 3! We are excited to continue an action-packed semester filled with valuable learning experiences, excursions, and career preparation opportunities for our Secondary students.

This term, students will participate in  excursions including visits to the MCG, Parliament House and William Angliss TAFE, giving them insight into government processes and post-school education pathways. Travel training teaches students to safely and confidently navigate public transport, read timetables, follow directions, and build independence in real-world community settings.

Our Senior students will also take part in RIJI mock interviews, an invaluable experience to practise interview skills and receive real-world feedback from industry professionals. Alongside this, students will continue developing their job readiness skills through resume writing, goal setting, and practical life skills sessions.

The school Canteen program is running. Rooms 22 and 26 are in the kitchen,  developing real-world skills in food preparation, handling money, customer service, teamwork, and following routines in a supportive school environments, and developing vocational skills.

Hands on Build supports Rooms 21 & 27 students to develop practical trade skills through real-world construction and teamwork experiences.

Our VPC students have commenced fund raising activities

As we move into the final two terms of the year, we begin the countdown to Graduation for our 2025 school leavers.

Let’s make it a great term!

ROOM 20

First semester in room 20 was filled with fun and learning and we are now ready to embark on our new goals and adventures to take us through to the end of the year.

The bright stars of Room 20 have had an excellent start to Term 3! They have returned from the break relaxed, well-rested and ready to learn.

We have welcomed two bright new stars! Shaheer is a new student who is cheerful, bubbly and has a deep love for trains. Levi is a returning student who is brilliant, earnest and has already made many friends in the secondary sub-school. Both Shaheer and Levi have settled into Room 20 smoothly and we look forward to sharing many new adventures with them!

Learning Through Play:

Educational games have helped our students master essential skills for both English and mathematics. For math this term, we will be learning the concepts of statistics and probability through playing boardgames such as snakes and ladders, connect four, tic-tac-toe, bingo and many more. We also have a boardgame leaderboard where we collect a point every time, we win a game and the more points we have, the bigger the prize we will get at the end of term!

Celebrating Naidoc

Last week we celebrated NAIDOC Week. Students celebrated the enduring strength, resilience, and tenacity of First Nations peoples. Students rotated through group activities activities focusing on throwing, kicking and handballing whilst working together as a group and working together as a group.

Mini Beasts Incursion

In line with this term’s Science topic of Mini Beasts, students were privileged to take part in a Mini Beasts incursion. Their classroom learning was reinforced through attendance at the incursion. They learnt about insects and how they produce in their habitat. They saw Butterfly nests and used a magnifying glass to get a close up look of encased mini beasts such as scorpions and beetles.  Students all enjoyed the experience especially dressing up as beetles and butterflies.

Coming Soon!

We have been practicing our item for JSA’s Wishing and Dreaming Production for 2025 in Week 7 of this term. We have started learning choreography for the song “Don’t Stop Believin’” Glee version. We are all excited to show the school community our talents and hard work!

In Semester 1, we have successfully fostered strong connections within our community and maintained a classroom environment where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves and embracing personal challenges. We will continue to cultivate a positive and supportive atmosphere this semester to allow everyone in Room 20 to thrive.
