Dear Parents and Carers,

As we race towards the end of the term, we have the opportunity to reflect on the year, in particular, our students growth throughout 2023. All of our students have made outstanding growth, both academically and with their social and emotional learning. This year, Somerville Primary School has recorded the highest results on record based on Department of Education Standardised Measures! Somerville has outperformed the State Average in all areas of the curriculum, inclusive of academic and social and emotional learning. As many community members know, our school is driven by excellence and continually striving ahead! Thank you to our teachers and staff for all of your hard work and thank you to our school community for supporting student learning. Well done to our students for always trying their best!

Last week we welcomed our 2024 Preps to start their transition to Somerville Primary School. It was wonderful to see their bright happy faces as they get ready to begin their adventure in learning at Somerville Primary School. On the Monday before Melbourne Cup we held our Off-Site Emergency Evacuation Drill; all of our students did an excellent job walking down to Barber Reserve with the Somerville Kindergarten students accompanying us.

Just to remind all families that students should not be at school before 8:30am. The yard is supervised from 8:40am. On Monday we have breakfast club from 8:30am at the front of the school. On Wednesday we have Toast and Talk from 8:30am in the community room.  We understand that a large number of students have been riding to school as part of Bike Education, however they cannot come to school before 8:30am, this is for their safety.  In the afternoon, if parents are running late, they only need to contact the office if they will be after 3:30pm, and we will call students to the office. Students who have not been picked up when the bell goes, will be sitting around the Leigh Donaldson memorial tree, just near the front gate.

We have a full last few weeks of the year. Some of the activities include, P-2 Swimming, students meeting their 2024 class and teacher, Reading Nights Pizza Party, Christmas Concert, Grade 6 Graduation and Community Carols at Fruit Growers Reserve.  All these activities are at no cost to families, they are funded by the school.

Reading Nights

Congrats to our students who are achieving their reading goals!

Somerville Star Awards

Congrats to our Somerville Star achievers from our previous assembly!

The next newsletter will be our last for the year, we will send out a Christmas Message in Week 11! As previously mentioned; the specific year level ‘What’s Happening’ will be shared via Compass from year levels.

Have a great weekend,

David and Shane
