ADVENT

Advent is a season of anticipation and preparation observed marking the beginning of the liturgical year. It encompasses the four Sundays leading up to Christmas Day. The word "advent" comes from the Latin word "adventus," meaning "coming" or "arrival." During this period, Christians reflect on the significance of the coming of Jesus Christ, not only as an historical event, but also as a symbol of hope and promise. Advent is characterized by the lighting of candles on an Advent wreath, each representing different themes such as hope, peace, joy, and love. It is a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, and a sense of expectation, fostering a deep connection to the spiritual aspects of the Christmas season.

Our Christmas tree has been set up and presents have already been placed under the tree. Thank you to our wonderful school community for supporting this charity during this time of the year.

HOLY NAME CHURCH HISTORY

Have you ever wondered who was the artist behind Holy Name’s Stations of the Cross, Tabernacle, Processional Cross, Baptismal Font, Holy Water Font and most of all the Mural of Our Lady of Knock.  His name was Vojtěch (Voitre) Marek.  His son Ivan Marek came to visit Holy Name in early September this year, to see if any of his Father’s works were currently displayed at Holy Name Church.  Immediately, Ivan recognised his late Father’s art pieces and began to photograph them to help him build a website catalogue.

Vojtěch (Voitre) Marek made works in beaten copper, wrought iron, enamel, carved stone and wood, and his output ranged from small holy vessels using precious metals to large figurative sculptures, baptismal fonts, altars and Stations of the Cross.  This is evident around Holy Name Church.

For more information about Holy Name and its sculptures, please visit www.voitremarek.com and under the catalogue of works, select the below picture.
