CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are continuing to learn about narratives. This week we are focused on describing the setting with adjectives, and what makes a problem and solution in the story.

VOCABULARY

Narratives: A spoken or written story.

Adjectives: A word that describes a person, place or thing e.g. the happy boy.

Problem: An issue or conflict in a story that impacts the characters, usually in the middle of a story.

Solution: The solving of a problem, usually at the end of the story.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

When you are reading with your child, you can ask them some of the following questions:

  • How would you describe that character? Their actions?
  • Where is the story set? How would you describe that setting?
  • I’m seeing something going wrong. What is that called?
  • What was the problem they just discovered?
  • How did the problem get fixed? Was there another way it could have been solved?
