Performing Arts Collaboration
Fairfield PS & Thornbury HS
On Monday, our Year 3 students and the FPS choir were lucky enough to participate in one of our fabulous Performing Arts collaborations with Thornbury High School.
Each Year 3 class got a chance to work with the Thornbury High hip hop dance group. During each session they learnt some basic hip hop moves and put them together to learn a hip hop routine.
At the same time, the FPS choir had a workshop with the Thornbury High School choir. We warmed up together, learnt new songs, taught the high school students some of our favourites and sang in different parts and harmonies.
We took the opportunity after lunch to share our wonderful learning by performing to the Foundation and Year 1 students, the highlight of which was the finale where the THS and FPS choirs sang the backing track (Ready or Not by the Fugees) for our Year 3 students to perform their hip hop dance to.
As always, we are so thrilled to work so closely with Thornbury High School’s Performing Arts department.
Here’s what some of our students had to say:
I think what we did on Monday was very fun because it brought everyone together for singing, dancing and mainly fun. We did lots of good songs including ‘Words Make the World Go Round’, ‘Ready or Not’ by the Fugees, ‘Believer’ by Imagine Dragons and ‘Keep the Beat’ from Vivo. I think choir is really good opportunity to learn, laugh and sing.

The Choir performance was so fun because we worked with Thornbury High School to create a performance for the preps, ones and threes. I liked how some FPS students got to perform ‘Believer’ with Thornbury High School. And I liked Thornbury High School’s hip hop dance to ‘Talk Dirty’. But the thing I liked most of all was how well FPS and THS worked together.
