Principal Update

Melissa Mackenzie

With only two weeks to go we are frantically trying to complete all the necessary tasks for the end of year. We had the Year 5 camp last week and today I am visiting the Year 6’s in Marysville at their camp. We have the Year 5 Makers Market coming up in the last week and there will be class parties and celebrations in the last week also.

This week we will be announcing the 2024 Year 6 Leadership Team at assembly. This process has been very considered and involved students, staff, the current Year 6 Leadership Team and the school Leadership Team. Every year it seems to get harder as there are so many students who could very capably fill the roles. I feel that this is a positive reflection of the work we do building student voice, confidence and passion for their beliefs.

Each year we have some staff changes and 2024 presents new opportunities for some staff. We have three staff leaving us: Tessa who has taught Performing Arts since term 2; Wayne who joined us in term 3 to fill leave positions and has been in 4B all of this term; and Naomi who has filled in 3G since earlier this term. We thank those staff for their considerable efforts and wish them well with their future endeavours.  We also have some new staff joining our teams: Natalie is PE trained and will be taking on the PE role; Haylee who has been working with us on Tuesdays will be joining the specialist team and Martha will be joining us as a classroom teacher. We welcome these new staff members and look forward to the expertise they will bring to APS.

We have been asked to remind parents that the Department of Education has in place a mobile phone ban that requires students who bring mobiles phones to school to have them switched off and securely put away during school hours. This includes any device that has connectivity.

Have a nice week
