Beyond the Classroom

Hallie  A.-T. -Performing Arts

Congratulations to Hallie  who participated in the Get The Beat (GTB) National Finals in Caloundra (Sunshine Coast, Qld) in late September. Hallie’s 12 and Under teams from the Australian Company of Performing Arts (ACPA) achieved the following results:

  • Tap troupe – 1st (national champions)
  • Musical theatre troupe – 1st (national champions)
  • Jazz troupe – 5th

Their musical theatre also received the second highest score overall for all troupes, so they also won overall runner up champions. This is an outstanding result for these very talented young performers. It was a fantastic experience for the kids to perform against the best performers from around Australia. It has been a great reward for their hard work and the hours they have spent training. It was a very positive team-building exercise, both for the students and for the parents that went along to support.

Follow up - Poppy R

Poppy’s cheerleading team competed at the AASCF nationals for cheerleading last month and were very excited to place first in their division.

They also won the level 1 large gym grand championship category, beating approximately 50 other teams, a first for their gym.

Poppy now holds 2 consecutive national championships for cheerleading.

Congratulations to Poppy and her team.

Surpriya - Tae Kwon-Do

Congratulations to Surpriya who was recently awarded the trophy for consistently high performance with National Tae Kwon-Do.  Every training session a student is chosen as having tried their best, at the end of a 3 month period a trophy is awarded to the person who has accumulated the most “best efforts”. The instructor said “Surpriya is the sort of student that always trains hard, she is dedicated, friendly, and likes to help out, with great leadership skills. All of the other students look up to her. She thoroughly deserves this trophy as a reward for her efforts”.

Wes - SA School Sports

I was selected in the state squad in the 100, 200 metres and relay after winning the SA School Sports metro championships in the 100m with a time of 12.96. Having never done athletics before it was quite a shock on the start line with competitors who seemed much bigger than me. To be chosen for nationals in the 200m, I had to run my first ever 200 against other members of the squad and I came 3rd with a qualifying national time. I was nervous going to nationals with no experience in this race. I had 5 weeks of training with the squad on Saturdays at Santos and training at PAAC twice a week to get me ready. Nationals were in Launceston Tasmania. During my training schedule I made great friends with other 100m and 200m runners. Thanks to the coaches who helped me, I achieved 4th place in my heat which put me in the top 12 in the country out of the 22 competitors. I also smashed my personal best.  For the 200, I came 3rd in my heat which put me in the top 9 in the county out the 19 competitors. My time was 25.91 which meant I had improved a vast amount on my previous best of 26.73. My highlight was getting silver in the relay where I ran with two of my best friends in the state squad. Our coach had predicted 4 weeks prior that he thought we would be a high chance of earning a silver based on our individual race times. The days of competition were long from 1.30pm to 9.00pm, and each night I was very tired. I want to thank Mr Smith for encouraging my running this year. I have decided to pursue my athletics  and see where it takes me over the coming years.
