STAGE 2 NEWS

How incredible to think that in just 2 short weeks, the 2023  school year will be over!  We will farewell Year 4 as they move into Stage 3, and welcome a new batch of Year 3’s in 2024.  We will also sadly farewell Miss Cullen as she moves on from MGPS.  Our learning is still ‘business as usual’ until the end of term, finishing off assessment tasks and taking part in final rehearsals for our drama pieces in Week 10.  Here’s a little run down of what Stage 2 have been up to over the last few weeks, and what is yet to come.

Maths

  • In Area, Stage 2 were learning about square centimetres, and how we can use square centimetres to find the area of shapes.  We used square centimetres to create our own “Minecraft” self portraits, then found the area of the different parts of our faces.

We also looked at the square metre in Area.  We constructed our own square metre from paper, then used it to measure parts of the playground.

English

  • Stage 2 are working hard to draft their own narrative story this week about a character who goes on an adventure or journey.  We are applying our learning from History and English throughout the term to write a wonderful story with a deep character.  We can’t wait to show you the published product!

Drama

  • Rehearsals are well underway in Stage 2 Drama as our students get ready to perform their short plays for their peers in week 10.  A quick reminder that students do not need any props or costumes that need to be purchased!  It has been wonderful to see the students working together in their groups and being creative.

History

  • After thoroughly enjoying learning about the journeys of famous explorers during the ‘Age of Exploration’, Stage 2 completed their own research and presented it using their fantastic Canva skills.  We are now looking at different perspectives around the first contact between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and settlers, traders and others.  The students have been so engaged during their learning in History (even if it is a lot of Miss Landow talking!).

Science

  • Stage 2 have been loving the Science unit ‘Magnetic Moves’ this term.  Science with experiments and magnets - it’s a win-win! The students always aim to conduct fair tests by ensuring the variables are controlled and always making sure to write their results down.  Thank you to Mrs Dunham and Miss Clyde-Smith for teaching this unit!

Thank you to the Stage 2 families for another wonderful and successful year of learning and growing at MGPS!  We wish all our students and families a Merry Christmas, and a relaxing well-earned rest over the holidays.
