Let Them Lose at Uno: Why “Doing Less” Builds Kids Who Can Do More
As part of our ongoing work through the Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative, we’re continuing our fortnightly CJC Wellbeing Podcast & Reading Series — sharing practical, evidence-informed resources aligned to the needs identified in our Parent Wellbeing Survey.
📖 This fortnight’s reading: “Let’s Try That Again” — The Phrase That Saves Me Daily
This powerful article centres around one simple phrase — “Let’s try that again” — and how it can transform everyday parenting moments.
Rather than focusing on punishment or correction, this approach supports children to learn, reflect, and try again in a safe and connected way. It allows us to hold clear boundaries while also maintaining strong relationships — giving children the opportunity to reset and practise more appropriate responses.
Importantly, it also reminds us that this works both ways. As adults, we can model this same approach when we get it wrong — showing our children that mistakes are part of learning, and that repair and reconnection are what really matter.
