Grades 1 and 2 Inquiry Incursion
Last Thursday and Friday, our Grade 1 and 2 students enjoyed a visit from Mrs Sargood.
As part of their Inquiry unit, students learned about what school was like in the late 1800s, exploring classroom routines, school rules, and the materials children used for learning. The incursion was an engaging way to compare schools of the past with schools today and brought history to life for our students.
A big thank you to Mrs Sargood for this wonderful learning experience!

This term in Inquiry, the Grade 1 and 2 students have been learning about history and how things change over time. At the beginning of the term, they explored their own personal histories, creating family trees. More recently, students have been investigating changes in the world, including developments in technology, education, transport, and communication.
This week, students learned about communication devices from the past and present, comparing how people shared information before modern technology existed. They are currently showcasing their learning through a Keynote presentation, developing their digital literacy skills as they create slides, add images and text, and organise information for an audience.

We have just celebrated Reconciliation Week, and so this was a great opportunity for the students to learn about Indigenous perspectives and Australia’s history. The students learned about the Australian Aboriginal flag and its meaning, the seven seasons of the Kulin People and interesting facts about bush tucker. We created incredible posters to showcase our learning and celebrate Reconciliation week.

This week in Maths we have been learning strategies to add and subtract two digit numbers using number lines and partitioning. We have been practising our fluency in doubling numbers, and using this knowledge to create near doubles number facts.
On the 11 of June, 30 students from CJC visited the Caulfield racecourse to discover the racing industry. Firstly, we saw some horses in the mounting yard. Then because it was still early we had breakfast provided by the Melbourne racing club, it included a cheese, bacon and egg roll, a fruit salad and a small croissant.
After this we had the chance to talk to two jockeys, Craig Williams, Daniel Stackhouse. We even had the chance to ask questions to them to learn more about their job. Thank you to those jockeys for giving your time.
And then we met the trainer Danny O'Brien, who let us feel the “horse silks”, he also told us about what his job as a trainer consists of.
Craig Williams took us down to the jockeys' changing rooms, which had a sauna , ice bath and spa, where they recovered. We then went to pat one of the horses.
At the end we saw how to saddle the horses.
In conclusion, thank you to all involved in making this an amazing experience for our school, hopefully we will be able to go again soon.
