Grade 1 & 2 Coding and Storytelling
In Digital Technologies, our Grade 1 students began the year using ScratchJr to explore the basics of coding by creating simple sequences, animations, and short digital stories. Building on this foundation, our Grade 2 students are now using OctoStudio to take their coding further. Guided by the Indigenous Dreamtime story Tiddalik the Frog, they learned to sequence events, animate characters, add sound and dialogue, and experiment with more advanced coding concepts such as branching, loops, and debugging. Both year levels are discovering how digital tools can be used to tell stories in creative and respectful ways.
Year 3/4 Music – Learning Traditional Notation
Our Year 3/4 students have been exploring traditional music notation and developing their rhythmic skills. They have been learning to read and play patterns using crotchets, quavers, semiquavers, and rests. The highlight has been coming together as an ensemble to perform these rhythms on percussion instruments – a joyful way to put their new knowledge into practice. The students have loved creating music as a group and are building confidence as young musicians.
Our amazing Digital Technologies teacher, Miss Spencer, participated last Monday in the Teaching Excellence Program. Here's her reflection on the experience:
"On Monday, I had the privilege of speaking on a panel for the Teaching Excellence Program, exploring the theme of Agency and Impact through Digital Technologies. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how we can empower students as creators, problem-solvers, and changemakers.
I was grateful for the positive feedback and the thoughtful, curious questions about the tools and units I shared—it’s always inspiring to see such genuine interest in how technology can make learning more meaningful."
