From the Classroom

News from The Seniors
In English, we have just finished reading our novel 'August and Jones'. Students have been exploring the themes within the story and investigating the author’s perspective by breaking down key details and ideas.
In Maths, students worked in pairs to design their very own mini golf courses! This project challenged them to apply their knowledge of area and perimeter with both regular and irregular shapes in a fun and creative way.
In Inquiry, we have been learning about the Eureka Stockade and exploring how the Chinese miners were affected during the Gold Rush. This has given us a deeper understanding of this important part of Australia’s history in preparation for our camp this week.
We are all feeling very excited about our upcoming camp to Sovereign Hill from Wednesday to Friday this week. It will be a fantastic opportunity to extend our learning about life on the goldfields!
Middle School News
In English, Middle A are coming near to the end of our class novel, The Callers. Students have really enjoyed reading this text and completing the accompanying tasks. Our focus has been to study characterisation and each different person's motivations in the book.
Middle B have completed their newspaper articles that tell the fairy tale version from a different characters perspective.
In Numeracy, Middle A have continued our work on Place Value, while also delving into financial matters. Students have been 'racing to become millionaires,' shopping at JbHiFi and finding the change from grocery shopping.
Middle B are working on developing our multiplication skills with recognising the various strategies we can use when looking at arrays.
If you are looking to do some maths activities over the holidays, why not try the following;
- quiz your child on their times tables,
- ask your child what the time is by looking at an analogue clock
- ask your child to calculate a couple of items and then ask them to work out the change.
In Inquiry, our students have been very busy working on their Australian animal PowerPoint and dioramas. They are nearly ready to present and are very excited to do so!
Juniors Tell All
Wow, what a term we have had in the Junior Unit! It has been great to see everyone coming in, ready to learn each day!
Our English lessons have been centred around a Mentor text, where students have delved deep into the book, unpacking the meanings behind the book. Junior B have been looking at a book called 'No! Never!', and have used this book to learn about how a character develops from the beginning, the middle and the end of a book. Junior A have also focussed on narrative with the text, 'Clancy & Millie and the Very Fine House' where they are learning to create their own narrative.
In Maths, we have been working on Subtraction including learning how to count backwards and find out the difference between two numbers. It has been wonderful to see students so engaged in their learning.
On Tuesday, we had our 'Past In Your Class' Incursion. Both classes stepped back into the 1800's where they became students from this time period! Students engaged in different activities from various historical time periods, including seeing Classic cars, playing old childrens games and creating their own historical home out of lego.
Performing Arts
What a wonderful term we have had in Performing Arts! All students have shown great teamwork as they have practised and prepared for their performances. We had 3 fantastic performances from both Senior classes and Junior B over the last fortnight, who all performed beautifully at assembly.
We still have 3 more performances to go! Middle A and B and Junior A will be performing their songs over the next little while. I will send out communication to families on the week that your child is performing so please look out for that email!
