R U OK Day
On Thursday, September 11, our school community came together to mark R U OK Day – a day to pause and check in on the wellbeing of those around us.
The whole school Breakfast Club was a huge success, with many students coming down to enjoy some delicious food and have a chat with staff and students. A big thank you to our VET Hospitality students, led by Yas Ziada, for the pancakes and baked eggs; and to the staff and student leaders who arrived bright and early to support set-up and service. We were grateful to be joined once again by the Lions Club – helping cook the BBQ for breakie.
At recess, our Student Leaders treated our staff to morning tea, sharing with them two poems they had written to show their gratitude and appreciation for all they do.
To Our Teachers Roses are red, violets are blue, we appreciate you, for all that you do.
From showing up to lessons, and teaching us facts. To helping us grow, and always doing what’s right.
We know we’re not perfect, and you don’t get enough time in lieu. That’s why we’ve made, A little something for you.
Roses are red, Violets are blue, You inspire us daily— We truly thank you. | To Our Support Staff A ray of light, Support so true, Smiles so bright— Take a moment, enjoy your brew.
Your help means the world, Especially when things go wrong, You lift us up with kindness And help us stay strong.
We know we can be headstrong, And sometimes resist a hand, But you’re always there with patience— And that, we understand.
You persevere with grace, Your care is consistent too, So here’s a heartfelt thank you— We truly appreciate you. |
At lunch, the Student Services team hosted a series of lunchtime activities encouraging us all to check in with one another and nurture a culture of care. The activities were designed to spark connection in a relaxed and inclusive setting and included creating R U OK? bracelets as wearable reminders to reach out to friends, designing badges that promote kindness and encouragement, and taking part in Conversation Bingo, a fun way to practice asking meaningful questions. These simple yet powerful moments help build a school environment where every student feels seen, heard, and supported, and where asking “Are you okay?” becomes a natural part of how we care for one another.
Further, our Year 7 students participated in the Supporting Friendships Workshop facilitated by Banyule Council. This engaging and interactive session is designed to help young people build healthy, respectful relationships through open discussion and hands-on activities. The workshop focuses on emotional intelligence, resilience, and practical strategies for navigating friendships and social challenges. Delivered in a safe classroom setting, it offers students the chance to explore what it means to be a good friend, how to manage conflict constructively, and how to support one another through life’s ups and downs. These are essential skills that will serve our students well, not just within the school gates, but throughout their lives.
We know that every day is a good day to check in on the mental health and wellbeing of those around us; but it is always nice to come together as a school community on days like R U OK day to remind ourselves of this.
