Focus on the Future - EHS Careers Expo

The Eltham High School Careers Expo ~Focus on the Future~ was held in Term 2, providing a valuable opportunity for students and families to engage with tertiary providers, employment and training services.

 

More than 30 exhibitors attended the expo with scheduled presentations delivered throughout the afternoon, providing additional information about post-secondary school options. 

 

The vast range of exhibitors included University of Melbourne, La Trobe University, RMIT, VIC Police, Collarts, Master Plumbers Association, Monash University, Apprenticeship Centres, Housing Industry Australia, ACU, Swinburne and more.

 

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive from exhibitors and attendees alike. 

 

A Visit to RMIT City Campus

In Term 2, Year 12 students attended an on-campus experience at RMIT City Campus, learning about the range of opportunities offered at RMIT. 

 

RMIT is a dual-sector tertiary provider offering both Vocational Education and Training and Higher Education courses, students learned about pathway options, global learning opportunities and access to industry. 

 

Year 11 VCE VM Work Related Skills Interview Program

Year 11 VCE-VM students participated in a Mock Interview Program in Work Related Skills, with a difference. Students experienced an interview with an Industry Expert gaining valuable feedback on their interview skills, resumes and cover letters. 

 

The tables were later turned, students were tasked with interviewing the Industry Expert. Students gained valuable insight into various industries and learned about individual career journeys. The task created connection, further developing important communication skills. The volunteers were impressed with our students and have committed to continuing the program in future. A few have requested students apply for work placements with contacts they have in various industries. 

 

Year 10 Work Experience

Year 10 students are continuing to complete Work Experience placements with a variety of employers across a vast range of industries. 

 

The Work Experience program at Eltham High School allows students to complete Work Experience for up to 1 week, at any time throughout the year, to allow for more flexibility for employers and students. 

 

The Work Experience Handbook is available on the Year 10 Careers Channel on Teams, with further information about obtaining Work Experience placements and includes links to Arrangement Forms, Safe at Work information and a helpful Student Portal listing many suitable local placements for students to access. 

 

Year 9 - Morrisby and RIJI Program.

The Year 9 students completed the Morrisby Online Careers Profile in Term 3. The aim of Morrisby is to help students to understand their strengths, interests and learning preferences to guide them towards career options, VCE subject selections and future educational choices.

 

Each student who completed 100% of the Morrisby Profile will be eligible to receive an individual 30- minute in-person unpacking interview with a trained Morrisby Careers Practitioner, interviews will commence in week 2 of Term 4.  

 

Year 9 - Real Industry Job Interviews (RIJI)

Real Industry Job Interviews (RIJI) is a work-readiness program that assists Year 9 students in developing important job search, resume writing and interviewing skills.

 

The program is delivered in Involve class as part of Careers Curriculum through a series of guided lesson plans.

 

Year 9 students have received 3 sessions dedicated to RIJI covering: 

 

  • Creating a resume

  • Writing a cover letter

  • Preparing for a job interview.

  •  

Students were required to apply for a 'mock job' from a list of job descriptions and submit a brief resume and cover letter.

 

The program concludes with a face-to-face interview with a local employer/industry expert who will provide each student with feedback. 

 

Interviews will take place on October 30 at the Eltham Reception Centre. 

My Future Selfie - Years 7 & 8 Careers – Getting to Know Yourself

Year 7 and 8 Careers lessons are delivered through Involve and focus on getting to know yourself. 

 

Students begin the journey of self-exploration, understanding their own skills, strengths, interests and values to make more informed decisions about the future. Students begin to recognise the employability skills they are developing through school, sports, community engagement including teamwork, communication skills and flexibility.

  • Manage your future

     

Sessions are delivered in Terms 3 & 4.
