Regional Track and Field Carnival

Last Wednesday, our school proudly sent a team of talented athletes to compete at the Regional Track and Field Carnival, showcasing both individual skill and team spirit. The event was an opportunity for students to test their abilities against some of the region’s best competitors, and our athletes did not disappoint.

Throughout the day, our students delivered impressive performances across a range of events.

Ally Brooks (Year 12, Everard House) and Ethan Armstrong Bourne (Year 12, Everard House) dominated on the track in their very last Regional Athletics Carnival. Ally won GOLD in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m and Ethan finished with GOLD in the 1500m and 3000m. Both will now head to the SSV State Finals for their sixth and final time.

I would like to take this opportunity to recognise both Ally and Ethan’s outstanding contributions to our school athletics program. Their dedication, consistency, and leadership have set a high standard for their peers, both on and off the track. They have both achieved remarkable success across multiple events at division, region and state levels. Their commitment to school athletics has left a lasting impact that will be remembered long after they graduate.

Yorke Murray (Year 8, Toner House) and Arizona Peel (Year 8, Skipper House)  impressed again and will head to their second consecutive Secondary School State Final. Yorke won GOLD in the 800m, while Arizona dominated the high jump, taking home the GOLD medal.

The 14 years boys relay team delivered an outstanding performance, securing a well-deserved victory in the 4 x 100m. Their speed, coordination, and seamless baton exchanges were key to their success, showcasing excellent teamwork and preparation. The relay team consisted of Yorke Murray (Year 8, Toner House), Jesse Porter (Year 8, Everard House) Bruce Thornber (Year 8, Toner House) and Charlie Stow (Year 8, Toner House).

Overall, the Regional Track and Field Carnival was a testament to the talent, effort, and commitment of our athletes. Congratulations to all students who competed – your hard work and achievements have made the school proud, and we look forward to seeing continued success at the state level.

Community Project - Cleaning up the Barak Bushlands

The Year 12 VCE-VM Personal Development created a Community Project ‘Cleaning up the Barak Bushlands’.

As part of our Unit 4 Personal Development project, our class took on a community clean up at the Barak Bushlands. We focused on the issue of rubbish and litter, as this area is an important place for our local community.

We began by researching the plants and animals that live in the bushland and learning about the effects of pollution on their environment. We had a lot of class discussions and a bushwalk, and we were able to see first hand the challenges in the area and think about what could be done to improve it. We got in contact with Nillumbik council, who gave us the all clear to go ahead with the clean-up. We also contacted Clean Up Australia Day, who provided us with reusable rubbish bags and gloves to wear.  We then carried out the clean-up day on 25 August, collecting rubbish from 9:00am to 12:00pm to improve the appearance of the bushland and support the health of local wildlife and plants.

In the end we collected 12 bags of rubbish some of which was recyclable. Some of the class separated the 10c containers from the rubbish as that is an ongoing project for VCE-VM's Work Related Skills. This project was a great experience. It gave us the chance to work together inside the classroom when planning the project and outside the classroom where we picked up the litter. It helped us learn more about the environment and contribute to our community. We are proud of the positive impact we made in the Barak Bushlands and hope our efforts inspire others to help care for this important local space
