Springvale Rise Primary School Community Hub

All Things Hub

Over the past fortnight Springvale Rise Community Hub had a blast hosting our 2025 Annual Women’s Health Forum in collaboration with Dandenong South Primary School. Funded by the City of Greater Dandenong as part of the Community Development program we were able to organise a fun filled day raising awareness for women’s health and celebrating that women have an opportunity to take charge of their learning. Hosted on Thursday the 4th of September over 100 women and children attended from various cultural backgrounds.

The day began with a Welcome to Country by our special guest Zoe Upton, elected member for the Bunurong Land Council and First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria. This was followed by our honoured guest MP Eden Foster who shared her incredible story in fighting cancer and emphasised the importance of women listening to their bodies and advocating for their own health.

The women were then organised into four groups where they all participated in a variety of activities including presentations from Ambulance Victoria learning about the signs of a stroke and about having ambulance cover. Mindfulness through yoga was delivered by Mental Health and Wellbeing Local. In addition Women’s Health in the South East delivered Mindfulness through Art where the ladies explored self care positive affirmations and decorated their very own mug with a positive statement to remind them every day of their strength. Lastly the women participated in an expo where there were a variety of partner organisations each sharing something different. The organisations included Jean Hailes, Monash Health SEPHU, Multi Culture Centre for Women’s Health, Breast Screen Victoria, Kid Safe, The Water Well Project and Terry White Chemmart Dandenong.

Many of the women said their favourite parts were trying yoga for the first time, learning the signs of a stroke, and finally booking a breast check. They noted how easy it was to make the appointment and that we brought the service to them. The day was complemented by delicious free coffee, lunch catered by Free Burma and the amazing cultural dance by our women on the Heights Women's Wellbeing group. The day ended with a special gift bag donated by Pinchapoo. It was an incredibly successful day and an important reminder that women are strong, that we matter, that our health journeys are ongoing, and that we are in control.
