Teaching and Learning and Senior School

We have come to the time of year when the senior students are preparing for their final assessments and those moving up into the senior school in 2026 will be honing their study skills and knowledge in preparation for VCE.

There are several events of note for the Class of 2025. This week is the final week of classes for Year 12 students.  They will also be celebrating their final assembly as a cohort on Thursday 16 October, having a Year 12 Celebration Luncheon later that same day and they will have their Celebrations Day at Fun Fields on Friday 17 October.  These events are opportunities for the students to spend time together, reflect on their time at Lalor Secondary College and express their thanks to those who have helped them along their educational journey, including their peers, teachers and families.  Congratulations to the Class of 2025 for coming this far – there is only the last little push before the finish line.  I know you can all do it.

Some Year 12s have already begun their external VCAA Examinations, having completed practical and oral examinations.  Languages students will also be completing their written examinations on Thursday 16 October.  There will be a Study without Teaching Vacation (SWOTVAC) period from Monday 20 October to Monday 27 October.  Year 12 students are welcome on site in full school uniform and are encouraged to make appointments with their teachers prior to arriving at the College during this period.  The English and English as a Second Language Examinations will be the first for most of the cohort, and this will be held on Tuesday 29 October.

Year 11s are in the midst of completing their final areas of study for their Unit 2 subjects.  Best of luck to all Year 11s for their final assessments.  I encourage all Year 11 students to begin preparing for Unit 2 examinations, which begin on Monday 10 November.  Prior to the examinations for Year 11s, Year 11 VCE students will be given a SWOTVAC period between Monday 3 November and Friday 7 November.  Students should study from home in this period. If students need to come into school, they must inform the Year 11 Student Managers prior to the day they are coming in.  If students wish to see their teachers, they must make appointments prior and must wear full school uniform when coming into the College.  Year 11 VM students will not have classes on Monday 3 November or Tuesday 4 November (Melbourne Cup Public Holiday), but will have to attend classes on Thursday 6 November and their relevant VET day, where applicable.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Intiyaz Ali, our Inquiry Program Co-ordinator, who was shortlisted for the Secondary Teacher of the Year Award for 2025 by the Design and Technology Teachers Association recently.  Mr Ali was nominated for this award by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) for his contribution to the new Study Design for Product Design and Technologies.

The College has several teachers who have put their names forward and have been chosen to examine for VCAA this year.  We have teachers marking for a large range of subjects, including Art Making and Exhibiting, Biology, Business Management, Media, Psychology and Visual Communication and Design.  Thank-you to those teachers who have put themselves forward for this opportunity.  Our students are already so fortunate to have so many experts across the range of disciplines, including experience examining the final papers.
