The Crazy Good Tech Challenge at, Lalor Secondary College!

At the end of Term 3, Year 7-9 students from our school participated in a 1-day accelerated design sprint, creating innovative solutions for living well with technology, focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Crazy Good Tech Challenge (CGTC), a collaboration between IBM and Crazy Ideas College (CIC), provided a platform for our students to voice their ideas on how we can use AI as a force for good?

Our students participated in this design sprint to generate bold and inspired ideas along with hundreds of students from across Australia.

During the CIC-facilitated workshop, students worked in small teams to tackle four key passion areas: promoting care for the environment, enhancing health and wellbeing, reimagining learning including preparing for the future and creating a sense of community.

From YSM (Your Safety Matters) a face recognition software that helps keep young people safe online, to ArtiFITchen, a AI powered Kitchen where all the appliances are connected to assist the user by suggesting healthy recipes and instructing you with a holographic chef, and even AID - UFO (A.I Drone - Upcycled Fashion Organisation) a AI powered drone that searches through landfill to identify material that can be used in users fashion projects, many bold and inspiring ideas were on display. The young people learned to think beyond what’s possible, connect across their community, and design new solutions to big challenges.

Guided through a process of exploration, idea generation, prototyping, testing, and promoting their concepts, our students showcased their creativity and ingenuity. Four winning ideas will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges, including representatives from IBM, CSIRO and Crazy Ideas College.

Kieran Murrihy, Founding Director at Crazy Ideas College, highlighted the importance of the challenge: “We all benefit when we unlock the ingenuity, resourcefulness, and optimism of young people. By engaging them in conversations about technology, we harness their wisdom and creativity to solve complex tech challenges. The Crazy Good Tech Challenge will generate solutions to help us all live with and use tech well.”

We are proud of our students’ participation and look forward to seeing the shortlisted innovative ideas posted on CICBeyond.com. Schools from across WA & VIC are participating in this incredible Challenge, creating a wave of creativity and innovation across Australia.

Stay tuned for more updates on the winning ideas and how our students continue to shine in the world of tech!
