Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the last newsletter for Term 3. We hope you have a restful break and look forward to continuing to strive for excellence in Term 4.
We have a busy term ahead, ensuring we set up for a successful 2026, including the Prep Orientation program in November and the Year 6/7 Transition Day scheduled for the first Tuesday in December.
Year 6s will be farewelled as part of a formal Graduation and a fun day at Adventure Park at the end of term, a tradition we have been doing for at least 15 years.
Swimming Term 4:
Years 3-6 students can participate in a week long swimming program in week 4 next term. Notes will be sent home the first day of Term 4, with places allocated on a first come first serve basis. To help with arrangements and ensuring we have enough swimming instructors, numbers are capped at 120, so the first 120 notes back are guaranteed a spot.
Dream City Incursion:
Today the Preps participated in the Dream City Incursion, where they participated in 3 fun activities. I dropped into the sessions and witnessed the children thoroughly engaged using VR Headsets, caring for a newborn, with real newborn noises and one creating an electrical circuit to make something fly. It was very well organised and supported by the company, as well as our staff.
School Strategic Plan:
Next term I will be sending out a survey asking parents and carers for feedback on the School’s Vision and Values, which will guide our work over the next 4 years. Community consultation is important and I encourage as many parents and carers to complete it. It will be available through the newsletter as well as Class Dojo.
Special Requests for 2026 Class:
Early in Term 4 we begin to form new classes for the following year. This involves the children indicating 3-4 people they feel they work well with. We endeavour to ensure they are with at least one of those people. We can also put in parameters to separate children, if required, due to ongoing issues. If you have any requests to have your child away from another for whatever reasons, please put it in writing by Friday 24th October. You can do this by writing a note and giving to office or send an email to melton.west.ps@education.vic.gov.au Any requests received after this date CANNOT be considered, due to the flow-on effect that making changes after classes have been created. Please note, requests for specific teachers will not be considered, however if you have any concerns about this, please make an appointment to chat to me about this so that we can ensure your child is placed with the most appropriate teacher.
2025 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey:
This is just a friendly reminder that the Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be closing this FRIDAY 19TH SEPTMEBER.
All families are invited to participate in the survey, and we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The online survey is available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist Parents / Caregivers / Guardians who speak a language other than English at home.
Please reach out to our office team 03 9743 5818 for survey guides in your language.
Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
