Junior School News

From the Junior School Wellbeing Co-ordinator
What a joy it has been to see the rain finally clear and our students back outside, filling the playgrounds with laughter and energy once again! The past two weeks have been wonderfully busy across all year levels, with our students engaging in diverse learning experiences and achieving remarkable success. Year 4 have been getting hands-on with their exploration of gravity, while Year 5 welcomed a valuable visit from the SES. Our athletes shone at the HICES athletics carnival, and although our Year 6 girls' impressive debating run came to an end last week, they should feel immensely proud knowing they finished as one of the top eight debating teams in Australia – an outstanding achievement that reflects their hard work and dedication.
Year 4 - Science Investigation
Year 4 students recently investigated how forces affect movement by testing parachutes. Each group created the same parachute design in three different sizes to see how size changes the way an object falls. The goal was to help the Duck Posse escape safely from the second story, using parachutes to increase air resistance and slow the pull of gravity. Students observed, compared results, and discussed how air resistance can be used to control the force of a fall.
Year 5 - SES incursion
The SES incursion was a huge hit with Year 5. Our students were very impressed with the presentation given by our guests, allowing them to link what they have been learning in their 'Natural Disasters' to real world examples.
The SES came in to visit Year 5. They taught us some safety tips for if we were in an emergency and showed us some video clips of them saving people in a flooding car. Everyone enjoyed it because they even brought in their truck, and we did a scavenger hunt with a partner to find different types of equipment they use.

HICES Athletics Carnival Wrap Up
On Monday 18 August, Pittwater House students proudly represented the School at the HICES Athletics Carnival, held at Blacktown International Sports Park.
It was a day filled with outstanding performances and team spirit. Both the Senior Boys’ and Girls’ Relay Teams achieved fantastic results, qualifying for CIS.
Special congratulations go to Billie and Jaxon, who both won the 12–13 Years 100m events, showcasing their speed and determination.
We also celebrate the success of Orlando, who placed 1st in the Junior High Jump, and Monroe, who took out the 11 Years 1500m with a strong run from start to finish.
Across the carnival, Pittwater House athletes qualified for CIS in over 10 different events, including Discus, High Jump, 200m, and 800m.
The carnival wrapped up just before the rain set in, and throughout the day our students showed wonderful encouragement and support for their fellow Pittwater House competitors. Their enthusiasm and sportsmanship were commendable.
Congratulations to all students who participated.
HICES Debating
We are proud to share the news of our Junior School Girls Debating team’s remarkable journey in the 2025 HICES debating competition. Our dedicated Year 6 students (Isabelle, Alice, Rose, Zoe, and Olive) - worked incredibly hard and successfully made it to the Prelim Finals, placing them among the top eight debating teams in the country.
While their journey in this round has now come to an end and they will not be progressing to the next stage, we are incredibly proud of all they have achieved. Their commitment, teamwork, and skill throughout the competition have been truly inspiring.
It has been a genuine pleasure to work with these young debaters and watch them develop their confidence and debating abilities. Isabelle, Alice, Rose, Zoe, and Olive have represented Pittwater House with great pride, and their accomplishment is something to celebrate.
Congratulations to the team on an outstanding effort and a fantastic experience in this highly regarded competition.
