Fathers Day 

What a highlight our Father's day afternoon was, thankyou to everyone that attended. 

 

Science Week

Check out all the experiments our little scientists got up to during Science Week with the Forest and Field rooms also engaging in a Science themed incursion exploring light, movement and sound. 

 

Book Week

What a great week celebrating reading and the joy that stories can bring to children and adults. Some centre favourites including Where is the Green Sheep, Green Eggs and Ham, The Colour Monster, Giraffes can't Dance and lots of Wiggles, Spiderman and Frozen characters. 

 

Child Protection Week

Linking together Child Protection Week, R U Ok Day and Brave Hearts day all the rooms at Haven recognised these events from Kindness trees, positive affirmations and  learning about kind and unkind buddies.

Heat Kids

This incursion is always a favourite with the children having the opportunity to become little firefighters for the day learning all about rescues, safety and helping each other.

Recipe from Julia -Apricot Chicken 

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 (150g each) chicken breast fillets, diced
  • 1 medium brown onion, diced
  • 2 carrots grated
  • 2 zucchinis grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 tbsp Moroccan seasoning mix
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 can apricot nectar 400ml
  • 1 cup dried diced apricots
  • 400g frozen beans
  • Couscous and flat bread to serve

 

Method

Step 1

-Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. 

-Cook chicken for 2 minutes each side or until browned.

-Transfer to a plate.

 

Step 2

-Add onion to pan. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until softened. 

-Add garlic, vegetable and seasoning. Cook for 1 minute or until fragrant. 

-Add tomato paste. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute. 

-Add apricot nectar, apricots and beans. Bring to the boil.

 

Step 3

-Return chicken to pan. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, uncovered, turning chicken occasionally, for 20 minutes or until chicken is cooked through and sauce has reduced and thickened slightly. 

-Serve chicken mixture with couscous and flat bread.
