K-Talks Sport: Q&A with Elite Female Athlete - Talia Kapetanellis
Join us for our next K-Talks Sport session on Thursday 27 August at lunch time in the Lecture Theatre as we welcome Talia, a talented 21-year-old midfielder who has built an impressive football career playing with the Western Sydney Wanderers FC Women's A-League team, Sydney University SFC, and most recently APIA Leichhardt Women's NPL.
Talia's journey hasn't always been straightforward.
She'll share the highs of playing at an elite level, the setbacks she's faced along the way, and the resilience it takes to keep chasing your goals. Most importantly, she'll talk about the lessons she's learned and the advice she wishes every young female athlete could hear.
Whether you dream of playing professional sport, are working towards your own goals, or simply want to hear from someone who's been through the challenges and come out stronger, this is a conversation you won't want to miss.
Come along, ask your questions, be inspired, and discover what it really takes to succeed both on and off the field.

Soccer
In soccer, it has all come together for Kambala 4 as they won 2-1 against SCEGGS in Round 2, displaying the best game yet across the two terms. It was a great game full of impressive skill and exciting goals, which demonstrated all of their hard work in the year so far. Despite two difficult matches for Kambala 2, 3 and 4 it is obvious to see the improvement on the field with their amazing passes and shots at goal. Despite the scoreboard not being in our favour, it has been great to see their consistent enthusiasm, energy and positivity within the team.
Water Polo
We are now three matches into the Friday night Water Polo competition, which MLC hosts each week. It has been great to see the excitement and energy around the group, all topped off by two wins from their first three matches! All their performances have been characterised by great effort and determination in the pool. We are looking forward to seeing how they go for the rest of the term as they prepare for Water Polo in Term
Basketball
The start of the term has brought some amazing wins and some very close losses for our basketball teams. Across the board, it seems we have been involved in some very close matches and playing well, but just not quite being able to secure the win. Kambala 4 won a great game against Kincoppal on Saturday, securing the win by just two points! Now in the top division, Kambala 1 have had one win to start the term, with their other two matches proving difficult against some stronger teams. There has been great effort from all players, however especially from those players in Year 12 who have had to juggle their training and matches with their trials this week. Well done girls!
Badminton
The Wednesday afternoon badminton competition hosted by St Catherine’s has been a great opportunity for our girls to get out on court and enjoy some match play. It has been great to see the girls thoroughly enjoying themselves during the competition, while also giving it their best and coming away with plenty of wins! The girls have represented the school and our values very well, stepping into various roles whenever needed to help facilitate the competition, as well as cheering their teammates along.

European Show Jumping Tour
Our very own Pippa D Sze recently took to the international arena, representing Australia at the prestigious Longines Valkenswaard Show in the Netherlands-one of the premier showjumping events on the global calendar.
Competing in the 1.00m class against elite international riders, Pippa D delivered an incredible performance to finish 11th overall.
What makes Pippa’s achievement even more extraordinary is that she competed on a leased horse she had only ridden a handful of times prior to the competition. Developing the trust and partnership needed for high-level showjumping usually takes months of groundwork. Pippa’s ability to adapt so quickly under pressure is a true testament to her exceptional horsemanship, natural skill, and daily dedication to her training.
The entire school community congratulates Pippa on this outstanding international accomplishment. We look forward to cheering her on in her future competitions!

Giselle Tapfield
Congratulations to Giselle Tapfield (Year 9) on an outstanding performance at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships, held in Melbourne from 25–30 July.
Giselle competed against some of the best young swimmers from across Australia, achieving an incredible three-medal haul! She claimed 3rd place in Freestyle, 2nd place in Backstroke and was part of the 2nd-place Mixed Medley Relay team.
This is an amazing achievement and a wonderful reflection of Giselle’s dedication, hard work and commitment to her swimming. Three national-level medals is something to be incredibly proud of!
