Parent-Teacher Interviews:

One Booking/Sport Only

A huge thank you to our parent-carers for consistently engaging in our parent-teacher interviews. We love that you are invested in your child’s learning journey at WHC.

A friendly reminder for all sports in SSP – Families only need to make oneappointment with onemember (coach or teacher) from their sport within SSP. We often find that families will schedule a booking for ‘Health’ and a booking for ‘Sport’ (AFL, Basketball, Netball or Soccer). The coaches (and teachers) are one and the same (regardless of sport). So please, allow enough space for all families to make a booking in SSP and do not book more than one appointment within any given sport, as there simply aren’t enough appointments available to service our sport cohorts from Year 7-12.

Please be assured that the coaches will cover both classroom based learning, effort, and behaviour, as well as their on the field, pitch or court athletic and skill development.

Netball News

It's been an exciting couple of weeks in the Netball Program as we get to the back end of our tournament Season with students out competing in the School Sport Victoria competition and the Netball Victoria School Championships over this past fortnight.

Last Tuesday our Junior girls headed to Kardinia Park for the Netball Victoria Schools Championships Qualifying Rounds. WHC had 4 teams which was a fantastic effort and all groups performed really well showing great progression and development. WHC Orange team will progress to the NVSC State Finals on Wednesday 2nd September at the State Netball Centre.

Well done to everyone and a fantastic result for our junior program. A big thankyou to Ms Collings, Ms Marino and Ms Trezise for assisting on the day!!!

On Thursday our intermediate boys made the long trek to Know Netball Centre for the NVSC Qualifiers. It was freezing, wet and slippery conditions the boys had a fantastic day finishing undefeated with 8 wins. The boys will head to the NVSC State Finals on Thursday 27th August at the State Netball Centre.

Thanks to Kaycee Taylor and Larissa Huismann who umpired on the day. This team will follow up that appearance with SSV State finals on Monday 31st of August at Waverley Netball Centre. This team has continued to improve every outing and a force to be reconnected with, we wish them all the best for both events.

The  QLD Netball tour is now less than 2 weeks away our students are extremely excited at the opportunity to compete in the National All Schools Netball Championships on the Gold Coast in Coomera. They will be experiencing a high performance environment throughout the week staying at the Gold Coast High Performance a similar set up that of the AIS.

Soccer news

We Are Making History!

Hopefully, come Thursday afternoon, our U/15 soccer boys will create history by securing a place in the final four of the Bill Turner National Schools Tournament.

With more than 1,000 teams competing across Australia, reaching the final four would be an extraordinary achievement, not only for our players and staff, but for the Western Heights Specialist Soccer Program as a whole.

But the journey for them doesn’t stop there! If successful, we will travel to Newcastle to compete for the Title.

The same group of boys has been invited by Melbourne Victory to represent Western Heights College under the Melbourne Victory banner at the 2026 Youth International Football Championship in South Korea.

This incredible opportunity will see our students compete against teams from South Korea, Japan, Europe and the United States, providing them with the chance to test themselves against some of the best young footballers from around the world.

From the local school competition to the national stage, and now onto the international stage, Western Heights soccer continues to break new ground and gain respect from all among the way!

High Performance Program: Levi TUBAILAGI

Levi recently competed in Under 17 Pentathlon World Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania. Levi achieved personal best times in all disciplines – an incredible performance in both times and overall placings on the WORLD STAGE!

The write up from Modern Pentathlon Australia at the conclusion of the tournament:

Levi delivered an outstanding championship, recording personal best performances in every discipline.

He opened with a personal best fencing performance recording eight victories, before producing one of the standout obstacle races for qualification A with a 24.29 seconds run – the third fastest obstacle time in the field.

Levi continued his excellent form with a personal best 1:10:18 swim, before finishing with a superb personal best 9:47.61 Laser run. His outstanding finish saw him climb six places to secure 17th overall in Qualification A.

Achieving personal bests across every discipline at a World Championships is a testament to Levi’s hard work, determination, and continued progression on the international stage. To achieve personal bests across every discipline while competing against the world’s best young pentathletes is an outstanding accomplishment and demonstrates the strength of Australia’s emerging talent. We look forward to watching Levi continue his journey on the world stage.

Levi also recently competed in the following events in the Australian and Oceania Laser Run Championships:

Spartan Sprint (5km) Age Group (14-17) National Series decider coming in 2nd place

MPA Australian Laser Run Championships U17 boys – 1st place

Oceania Laser Run Championships U17 boys– 1st place

Global City Laser Run U17 boys – 1st place (he is ranked 1st in the World for this event and is now 15 points clear of 2nd place after the weekends event).

Parent-Carer Respect at Tournaments and Competitions: Guidelines for Sideline Behaviour

Parents and carers play a leading role in encouraging and supporting their children to play and stay involved in sport, in a fun and safe environment.

We love that our community come and support our College and our student-athlete’s in their sporting journey’s at WHC, and we would absolutely encourage you to still keep attending and supporting!

However, we ask that our entire WHC community show respect to our umpires, our coaches and teachers. Blaming, yelling abuse and questioning calls of coaches and umpires is simply not ok.

At WHC and our Specialist Sport Program – we pride ourselves on our integrity, and our promotion of safety and respect towards each other, coaches, umpires, teachers and officials. We ask that our parent-carer community models the same behaviours and traits.

Cheer Positively:

  • Support all players on the field, court or pitch.

  • Reward effort, not outcomes.

  • Demonstrate and role model high integrity in words and actions.

Let the Coach Coach:

  • Avoid sideline coaching

  • Respect the teaching and coaching space. Allow the team to meet as a team both before and after competition. Please wait until students have been ‘released’ prior to taking group or individual photo’s or discussing the game with your child.

Respect Officials:

  • Respect the decisions of officials at all times.

  • No verbal abuse.

  • Accept the decision.

Keep Cool:

  • Manage personal frustrations.

  • If it’s not positive in nature, please refrain from commenting or demonstrating negative body language.

  • Walk away if you need to and be a role model in emotional regulation.

The Victorian Government has a respectful parenting policy in place. We have a shared responsibility (parents, carers, teachers and coaches) to ensure a positive and safe learning environment – this learning environment still exists on the pitch, field or court (all sports). We don’t ever want to be in the position where we are required to remove parent-carers from supporting a sporting event, however, if basic respect in any of the above areas can’t be adhered to, we will unfortunately need to do so. Please don’t ever put us in this position.

We want to work together. To be respectful. To act as one team, aligned in a common goal to work hard, communicate positively, celebrate effort, and demonstrate the values we want our children to learn both in the classroom and on the sporting field. When we do this collectively, we achieve even greater results and create even greater humans, capable of thriving in sport and life.
