Senior School

Term 2 has been busy as expected, with both staff and students wholeheartedly embracing their teaching and learning experiences. It has been wonderful to see students continuing to engage in their studies, extracurricular opportunities and broader school experiences throughout the term.
Our Year 12 students have enjoyed several memorable milestones, including participating in their final whole school Athletics Carnival and attending subject-based excursions. These experiences not only enrich classroom learning but also provide students with valuable opportunities to connect their studies to real-world contexts.
Recently, Year 12 Business Management students travelled to the Yakult factory, where they explored business operations and processes in action. Meanwhile, Unit 3 and 4 Health and Human Development students attended Road to Zero, an immersive educational program designed to promote road safety awareness. Students developed an understanding of safe road behaviours and explored health promotion initiatives implemented to support Victoria’s goal of achieving zero road deaths by 2050.
Attendance
Attendance continues to remain our utmost priority across the Senior School, as we know there is a strong link between regular attendance, student achievement and overall engagement in school. Establishing positive routines around attendance and punctuality supports students academically, socially and emotionally, helping them make the most of every learning opportunity. It has been pleasing to see many students continuing to demonstrate strong attendance habits and arriving to class on time each day. We also continue to celebrate students through our E.P.I.C. awards, recognising those who are present in every class, every period. Alongside this, students continue to demonstrate our College values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility through the Merit system. We encourage all students to remain committed to attending school consistently and making the most of the opportunities available to them throughout the remainder of the term.
Summative assessment and the examination period
Looking ahead, students are reminded that assessment and examination season is fast approaching. In Week 7, Year 10 students will undertake their CAT Week, while Year 10 and Year 11 examinations will run across Weeks 7–8.
Important information for students and families includes:
- Year 10 and Year 11 students are only required onsite between Friday 5 June and Friday 12 June for scheduled examinations
- Revision Week will take place during Week 6 (Monday–Thursday). Students are expected to attend all normal timetabled classes during this period
- Year 10 Accelerated VCE VM students (10F and 10G) and Year 11 VCE VM students will continue following their usual timetable, although room changes may occur to accommodate examinations
- All students are required to attend examinations in full school uniform and arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled commencement time
- Students with multiple examinations on the same day are not permitted to leave and return throughout the day
- Private study spaces will be available in the library, with students also permitted to eat in the library deck area during recess and lunchtime
- Students should not be wandering around the school grounds during examination periods, as maintaining active supervision and student safety remains a priority.
Work experience
Additionally, all Year 10 students will be participating in Work Experience during Week 10. By this stage, students should ensure all paperwork has been finalised and submitted in preparation for the week. Work Experience provides an invaluable opportunity for students to gain insight into potential career pathways, build workplace skills and experience environments beyond the classroom. Please note that there will be no alternative school-based program running during this time, so it is important that all arrangements are confirmed and ready to go prior to commencement.
Final messages
Please continue to keep an eye out for the weekly Year Level updates from applicable coordinators, as well as important information and reminders that will be communicated by myself throughout the term. These updates are designed to ensure you remain informed and supported.
I look forward to a positive and productive term ahead and thank our families for their ongoing support of the Senior School.
I wish all students the very best as they prepare for upcoming assessments and examinations and encourage everyone to continue maintaining positive study habits and seeking support when required.

MTC Youth Ambassador Program
Congratulations to Year 11 student Venn Poulios, who was recently made a 2026 Youth Ambassador for Melbourne Theatre Company’s Youth Ambassadors Program. Meeting roughly once a month, Youth Ambassadors are offered the chance to extend their knowledge and experience by attending Melbourne Theatre Company productions and sharing their responses to theatre with a group of like-minded young people. They will also meet a range of staff and artists for exclusive Q&A opportunities, with dinner provided before each performance. Youth Ambassadors also take a leadership role which has two functions: to act as youth representatives within the Company, and to act as advocates for Melbourne Theatre Company within their school and social communities.
Venn's review of West Gate
"West Gate is a play developed through Melbourne Theatre Company’s ‘NEXT STAGE writers’ program’. The play mainly focuses on the collapse of part of the West Gate Bridge on the 15th of October 1970, which is one of the deadliest industrial accidents in Australian history. The play also explores male friendship (seen heavily in the first part of the play) and grief (explored within the second half of the performance). The characters were brought to life through wonderful Australian actors like Darcy Kent, Steve Bastoni, Daniela Farinaicci and more. The show ran from the 10th of March to the 18th of April and received praise from many sources during its 5-week run. The play was also on the VCE Theatre Studies playlist for the year.
I got to tour backstage and see West Gate on the 31st of March as the first of ten plays I am seeing this year through Melbourne Theatre Company’s Youth Ambassador program.
Some of the plays I am seeing in the term are;
- ‘The Glass Menagerie’ by Tennessee Williams running from the 27th of April to the 5th of June playing at Southbank Theatre, Sumner
- ‘Shoelace Chaser’ by Madeline Nunn from the 9th to 27th of May, playing in Southbank theatre ‘Lawler’ (this is Melbourne Theatre Company’s educational play for the year)
- ‘Retrograde’ by Ryan Calais Cameron from the 16th of May to the 27th of June, playing at the Arts Centre Melbourne, Fairfax Studio.
If you are interested in learning more about these shows you can go to Melbourne Theatre Company’s website and if any interest you, please note that students are available for ‘Seat Saver’ Tickets - available from 12pm to 4pm every Tuesday - which are all $29. Please note that tickets can be collected 45 minutes before a performance with a valid concession card including student ID. Discounts are offered to any people under 30 for $49 a ticket, plus fees."
