LITERACY
This term, our literacy learning has been closely connected to our Humanities topic, Early Colonisation. Through reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities, students have explored Australia's history from a range of perspectives while developing their literacy skills.
Using mentor texts such as My Place, The First Fleet, Meet Captain James Cook, Captain Cook and the Endeavour, The Voyages of Captain Cook, My Name is Lizzie Flynn and Beth: The Story of a Child Convict, students have built their understanding of significant historical events and the experiences of different groups of people. They have learned to identify key information, compare perspectives, make inferences and think critically about historical sources.
Students have applied their learning through a variety of writing tasks, including informative, persuasive and historical recount writing. They have focused on using evidence from texts, organising ideas logically and explaining cause and consequence, continuity and change, and differing viewpoints. Through these literacy experiences, students have strengthened their reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing skills and ability to analyse historical events from multiple perspectives.

MATHS
This term in Numeracy, we have focused on developing our addition and subtraction strategies through solving a variety of worded problems and applying these skills to real-world situations.
Students also explored the topic of measurement, where they measured real objects, ordered them and practised their skills in hands-on activities.
Finally, towards the end of the term, we investigated the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, building students’ understanding of their features and characteristics.
We have had a great time linking our Maths to our early colonisation learning this term, during which students even planned out their own settlement!
In numeracy, we have been learning how to work out worded subtraction problems, using renaming. Renaming is where if you have a problem for example 21-19, you obviously can't subtract 9 from 1 right? So you take one from one from the tens which will give you 11 in the ones, and now you can do it! Now, take 10 from the tens, which will give you zero. And that is your answer! 21-19=2 - Lily M.
We are learning jump, split and compensation today. We did compensation but it was AFL related. I had a lot of fun - Tom N.
In Numeracy we have been learning additive strategies on how to solve equations - Alice P.
I have enjoyed doing the new settlement task using addition and subtraction - Reese M.
I love numeracy because I get to do hard math equations and it’s really fun and I'm really good at it. - Jaxson
It has been really good and fun when we do Numeracy like when we did
Settlement tasks and additive and subtraction strategies. It is fun learning math because it shows you new things and it helps you learn more things! 👏 - Estelle S
