Wellbeing - Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS)

Wellbeing at St Peter's

As the weather becomes cooler and the beautiful colours of autumn begin to appear, it provides a wonderful opportunity to pause, reflect and reconnect. This change in season reminds us of the importance of slowing down, enjoying quality time together and checking in on our wellbeing—both for ourselves and for our children.

This term, we continue to support students in developing emotional awareness and positive wellbeing practices. We are also excited that we have commenced teaching the Respectful Relationships curriculum across the school, supporting students to build positive relationships, resilience, empathy and emotional literacy.

Alongside this, all classes will participate in our Cyber Safe Classroom pilot program, helping students develop safe, responsible and respectful online behaviours in an increasingly digital world.

Our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) expectations also remain a strong focus throughout the term. By consistently reinforcing our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Safety and the related expectations, we continue to create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every student can learn and thrive.

As part of the Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative, as our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (MHWL) my role is to support the development of a whole-school approach to student wellbeing. The role focuses on strengthening mental health practices across the school, supporting staff capacity, coordinating early intervention supports and helping to create positive learning environments where all students feel safe, connected and supported.

Just like the changing leaves of autumn, growth takes time, patience and care. At both school and home, the small daily moments of connection, encouragement and support can make a significant difference in helping children feel confident, connected and ready to learn.
