From the Boarding Captain

The start of the term has always been quite busy, with everyone completely moving all their stuff back into boarding for another school year. This year we have 28new boarders across all year groups settling into their new boarding lifestyle. We have made the decision to shut the Anchorage Boarding House, combine the Years Seven and Eight boys and girls in Endeavor House and the Year Nines have moved up to the Senior houses. This is a change to the usual setup in boarding, but I feel that everyone has settled straight into this new adjustment, living with new people and making new friends.
For the first weekend back in boarding we tried to encourage all boarders to stay in boarding and participate in rec activities. For rec, all of boarding went to the Wild West Bowling Alley to have some friendly competition between peers. There were many outstanding bowling skills shown and some questionable techniques but overall, it was heaps of fun. We have had many beach trips over the past few weekends mainly adventuring to Gull Rock. The juniors have particularly enjoyed going for bike rides across campus, fishing and pulling out the slip and slide tarp. The basketball court outside Eclipse has been used nonstop these past few weeks as well as the pool table and table tennis table. This week, Breaksea managed to get their hands on a new air hockey table, this has kept the whole house entertained for many hours with many screams echoing throughout the house.
There have been many sport activities such as basketball, cricket, rowing, netball trials and Country Week trials which many boarders have been participating in, keeping the houses very busy.
Every Sunday we have what we call a Sunday Sesh where all boarders enjoy a dinner together outside in the beautiful evenings. This is a way where we get to catch up about what happened over the weekend and spend time with one other before the new week begins.
The first few weeks of a new year can be a difficult time for boarders. Whether you’re missing home or trying to readjust to the routines of boarding, it is quite challenging. This is a tough time for families as well, not having your children living at home with you. Though, with the support of friends, family and staff this feeling will soon fade, and things become much easier.
I hope you all continue to have a relaxing and enjoyable term!
