The commissioning of our senior leaders and the Belling In ceremony mark significant moments in our community. As we welcome these students into roles of responsibility and leadership, we also embrace our new students and staff, who bring with them fresh perspectives and talents. Together, these traditions symbolise the start of new journeys at the College, fostering unity, growth and collaboration. We eagerly anticipate the contributions of all staff and students as they embark on a year filled with learning, achievement and shared success.
As we enter the Lenten season, we reflect on the themes of sacrifice, renewal and hope. This sacred time calls for a deeper connection to our faith, an opportunity to grow spiritually and support one another on this journey of reflection and devotion. May this season be one of introspection and growth for all in our St Mary's community. On Tuesday, the Youth Ministry team made pancakes to commemorate Shrove Tuesday. Today, for Ash Wednesday, all students and staff attended liturgies to mark the beginning of the season of Lent.
The summer season of sports is now underway, with a number of teams representing the College across seven sports this term. I wish all teams every success. Our rowers have just finished competing at the Tasmanian All Schools titles with some outstanding results. They conclude their season with the Head of the River on Saturday 15 March at Lake Barrington.
The athletic season kicked off with our Year 7–12 Athletics Carnival at the Domain on Friday 21 February. The senior athletics team has been chosen and will represent St Mary’s College at the Southern Athletics at the Domain on Tuesday 11 March and then the State Athletics in Launceston on Tuesday 25 March.
The College community wishes our talented rowing and athletics teams the very best of luck as they prepare for the upcoming State SATIS events. We are proud of your dedication, teamwork and commitment to excellence. Keep striving for your best and know that we are all behind you every step of the way.
Let this season inspire us all to push forward, whether in sport, study or faith. Best of luck to our athletes and may your hard work and spirit shine through!
