Year 7 Supermarket Stitch
Our Year 7 Textiles students have made fantastic progress in their Supermarket Stitch project, demonstrating growing confidence and skill in their sewing techniques. Over the past few weeks, they have moved from initial planning and pattern-making to hands-on experimentation with applique and embroidery.
Many students began with simple stitches but have now advanced to more intricate detailing, carefully layering fabrics and refining their technique to bring their chosen supermarket items to life. Their ability to replicate branding and design elements with thread and fabric has been particularly impressive, with some students going beyond expectations to add textures and shading effects.
One of the biggest areas of growth has been in problem-solving. Students have learned to adapt their designs when challenges arise—whether it’s adjusting a pattern for better proportions, experimenting with different embroidery stitches for lettering, or overcoming construction difficulties. Their resilience and creativity have truly shone through.
As we move into the final stages, students are beginning to assemble their pieces with a stronger understanding of textile techniques and design principles. The classroom has been buzzing with excitement as they see their hard work take shape, and we look forward to celebrating their final creations soon!
Please take a moment to go through the students compass to see weekly progress updates from each class to see the creativity live.
VCE Product Design & Technology (Textiles)
VCE Product Design & Technology (Textiles) students have been making significant strides in their teacher storage bag project, moving from concept development to practical application. With their designs now finalised, students have shifted their focus to creating samples and testing materials to ensure their bags are both functional and durable.
Through this process, students are experimenting with different fabric choices, considering factors such as strength, flexibility, and ease of construction. They are also trailing stitching techniques, fastenings, and reinforcements to determine the best methods for assembling their designs. This hands-on approach allows them to refine their decision-making and problem-solving skills while ensuring their final products meet the needs of their chosen teacher clients.
As they progress, the workshop has been filled with focused energy, with students balancing creativity and technical precision. The next stage will see them begin full-scale production, bringing their carefully planned designs to life.
We can’t wait to see the final products come together in the coming weeks! Stay tuned for more updates as our students push their design skills to new heights.
Textiles has also had to pleasure of welcoming PD&T Wood students to the Textiles room to also explore different sampling techniques.
