ANZAC Day Memorial

Gisborne Secondary College’s dedicated Textiles Club students have been hard at work crafting a unique ANZAC Day tribute, using scrap materials to create a stunning memorial cross that is on display at College Reception and will now move on to making a wreath. Under the guidance and support of their teacher, Adriana Tavares Green, the students have transformed fabric remnants into meaningful handmade poppies, each symbolising remembrance and gratitude for those who served.

This initiative not only showcases the students’ creativity and commitment to sustainable practices but also highlights the importance of honouring ANZAC traditions through hands-on, community-focused projects. By repurposing offcuts and discarded textiles, the students have given new life to materials that might otherwise have gone to waste, embodying the spirit of resourcefulness and respect.

The project has been a rewarding experience for the students, who have worked diligently to design and construct each poppy with care and their creation will be the centrepiece during the school’s ANZAC Day commemoration.

The project stands as a powerful reminder of the role that art, design, and collaboration can play in keeping historical traditions alive for future generations.
