School-wide Positive Behaviour Support

SWPBS (School-wide Positive Behaviour Support) is globally recognised, evidence-based framework designed to help schools create positive, safe, and fair settings where students and teachers can thrive. It focuses on teaching and encouraging positive behaviour, supporting all students, and providing extra help to those who need it. By doing this, SWPBS helps improve behaviour, wellbeing, and academic success.
In conjunction with the ongoing implementation of SWPBS, over the past weeks Gisborne Secondary College has looked to boost the Respectful Relationships program across multiple year levels. Respectful Relationships education is a core component of the Victorian Curriculum from foundation to year 12. It is all about embedding a culture of respect and equality across the entire school community. Respectful Relationships promotes respect and gender equality and helps students learn how to build healthy relationships. It prepares students to face challenges by developing problem-solving skills and building resilience and confidence. The implementation of the program is a recommendation of The Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence.
On Tuesday 4th March 2025 Brainstorm Productions were invited to deliver a theatre in education program to our Year 7 and 8 students. The program uses compelling narratives, movement, soundscapes and theatrical devices to help students develop practical social and emotional skills. Each live performance is supported by a Q&A and suite of curriculum-aligned teaching resources to continue the conversations in the classroom. Designed to be a creative and engaging addition to your student wellbeing, cyber safety and school wide bullying prevention programs.
In Term 1 2025 Gisborne Secondary College has continued to work on several programs to build and improve on School Wide Positive Behaviours.
All staff at the College are continuing their efforts in professional learning communities on projects based on the High Impact Wellbeing Strategies (HIWS) published by the Department of Education for ‘Building Student Relationships’.
Furthermore, the SWPBS Guiding Team are now well into their training to improve ‘Classroom Systems’. Once completed these staff will then share the knowledge and expertise throughout the wider staff so that they can improve practices within their own classroom spaces.
