Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden 2025

This week marks Week 5 with 3/4CB! We have been busy tidying up the garden beds after the summer sunshine, ensuring they are ready for the seasons ahead. Our tomato plants continue to produce an abundance of delicious tomatoes, which we have been enjoying in the kitchen each week.

Along with tomatoes, we’ve also harvested beans, silverbeet, beetroot, pumpkins and a few small apples. In just a few weeks, we are expecting a plentiful eggplant harvest!

In the kitchen this week, we cooked a delicious veggie stir-fry with rice. Since Tuesday was a significant day in the Church calendar—Shrove Tuesday—we also made pancakes to mark the occasion.  These were a favourite amongst the students as they munched them up with the stirfry and beetroot dip. In the garden we have also had to get the hose out each week to give the fruit trees in our orchard a good soak as the rain isn’t providing much help at the moment.

A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers who generously give their time to support us. We truly appreciate the help of Gabi (Victoria's Mum), Kathy (Luka's Grandmother), Amanda (Flynn’s Mum), Rosie (Lewis' Mum), and Kathy (Georgina's Mum). We couldn’t run this program without you!

Arigatou!

Today the carrot group made the salad. Lewis and I were cutting spring onions. We went to the garden to get some mint because we needed some to make the salad. My group is excited to eat the pancakes because it is Shrove Tuesday. I don't like pancakes that much so I'll probably eat at least 2 of them just in case the people didn't eat it. By Christopher
