Cyber Safety

Navigating Generative AI
As technology rapidly evolves, we want to keep you informed about emerging trends and their impact on our pupils. One such trend is the increasing availability of Generative AI tools. These tools can create text, images, and even videos, and whilst they offer exciting possibilities, they also raise important cybersafety considerations.
To help you and your children understand this technology, we've attached a short video:
Why is this important for cybersafety?
Generative AI introduces new challenges, including:
- Misinformation and "deepfakes": AI can create realistic but fabricated content, making it difficult to discern truth from falsehood.
- Copyright and plagiarism: Understanding the ethical use of AI-generated content is crucial to avoid plagiarism and respect intellectual property.
- Privacy concerns: Some AI tools may collect and use personal data, raising privacy issues.
- Critical thinking: It is vital pupils still develop critical thinking skills, and not rely solely on AI generated content.
What can you do at home?
- Watch the video with your children: Initiate open conversations about Generative AI and its implications.
- Encourage critical thinking: Help your children question the information they encounter online, including AI-generated content.
- Discuss responsible use: Emphasise the importance of citing sources, respecting copyright, and avoiding plagiarism.
- Set boundaries: Establish guidelines for using AI tools, including time limits and appropriate content.
- Stay informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest developments in AI and cybersafety.
We are committed to fostering a safe and responsible digital environment for our pupils. By working together, we can empower them to navigate the world of Generative AI with confidence and awareness.
