“Parents always influence the moral development of their children... it follows that they should take up this essential role and carry it out consciously, enthusiastically, reasonably and appropriately..." Pope Francis, excerpt from Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love).
In the first newsletter, I spoke at length about our community and how welcoming they were to me as the new leader of the College. Since that newsletter, I have seen our community come to life educationally, and the day-to-day operations of the school have taken over.
As we reach the final week of this term, we find ourselves in preparation for one of the most sacred and reflective moments in the Christian calendar—Holy Week. In Holy Week, we walk with Jesus through the journey of love, sacrifice, and ultimately, hope through the Resurrection. It is a week that invites us into stillness, into compassion, and into deeper connection with our faith and with one another.
The season of Lent has offered us time to pause and reflect—on our choices, on our intentions, and on how we care for others. In our Brigidine context, it also calls us to delve deeply into the values that are at the very heart of our charism: Compassion, Justice, Hope, Hospitality, and Peace.
St Brigid, whose light still shines brightly in all that we do, was a woman of action and of deep spiritual strength. Her life was marked by generosity and courage—a commitment to the marginalised, and a profound trust in God’s presence. As we move through Lent, we’ve endeavoured to embody that same spirit—supporting one another, raising funds for those in need, offering our prayers and reflections, and staying true to our call to be brave, be brilliant, but always be Brigidine.
This term has been filled with highlights that speak to the strength and vibrancy of our community.
We have worked together as a staff to analyse data and inform our teaching in an effort to understand each and every child learner in our classroom. Our Pastoral wellbeing program has seen the students finalise the PIVOT data which has been used for planning the rest of the year with individual goals being set by teachers in alignment with feedback received.
We will continue to plan for the outstanding teaching and learning the College is known for. We will be spending the first day next term building on this to incorporate the learnings into the new programs as part of the Curriculum Reform in NSW.
Extended Leave Applications Policy updated
A reminder to families that Extended Leave Applications (for leave of five school days or more) must be submitted no less than 4 weeks prior to the start date of leave to ensure students are not at risk of missing critical assessments.” (as not all applications will be approved). Please refer to the College’s policy on extended leave, which was sent to you recently through Compass, and contact the office should you require further information. The deadline is four weeks before the start of the leave date. Late and incomplete applications will automatically be rejected prior to review.
Enrolment for Year 7, 2027.
This is a long process and begins with visits to our Primary feeder schools. I had the pleasure to take a number of year 7 and 8 girls back to their Primary schools to answer questions and give information on Brigidine College to prospective students. The enthusiasm and warmth displayed by our students during these visits reaffirm the strong sense of community and the reputation our school holds. We look forward to welcoming many of these students in the coming years.
As part of that process, we also hosted our fantastic Open Day to showcase the school at its finest. The student leaders who volunteered their time were the best advertisement for our College and spoke so eloquently and from an informed perspective. The feedback from parents was highly positive. Thank you to everyone who contributed to its success!
Community and Co-Curricular events
Our students continue to excel in both sporting and co-curricular pursuits. Congratulations to our athletes who achieved outstanding results in recent competitions, bringing pride to our school community. Congratulations to our touch football, basketball and water polo players who represented the College with enthusiasm and community spirit, as well as our swimming team, who have performed extraordinarily well - with 10 students this week qualifying for NSW all schools swimming. To the swimming team I observed nearly a month ago to the final 10 students this week who have qualified for NSW all schools, a big congratulations to them all.
Additionally, our talented Year 10 and 12 musicians delivered exceptional performances at the music recital, showcasing their dedication and passion. For the girls who competed in Public Speaking, the results may not have gone our way, but it didn’t stop the students from giving their best. The debating competition has just started in outstanding fashion with five wins out of six and we hope that all continues.
Parent-Teacher Evenings
The recent parent–teacher evenings have provided an important opportunity to discuss student progress. The feedback gained from these meetings is critical to a positive learning experience for your daughter and guides future learning and conversations.
Year 12 Updates – Exams and Holiday Classes
Year 12 students have recently finished their exams, and we commend our senior students for their diligence and perseverance. To support their preparation, holiday classes will be available during the break. We encourage students to make the most of these sessions to ensure they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
Stay tuned for some information early next term regarding additional library hours which would enable students to utilise the library for after-hours study. We are planning on having tutors, but at the time of the newsletter are still finalising details.
Sydney Catholic Schools Parent Charter
“The Sydney Catholic Schools Parent Charter has been updated and is available here. The intention of this Charter is to outline the principles and expectations that underpin the relationship between parents and schools as we work together to build school communities based on valid partnership. This was released in November 2024
Early Finish – Friday 11th April
Please note that school will finish at 1:30 pm on Friday, 11th April, in lieu of the recent Open Day preparations. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, which allowed us to showcase our school to prospective families.
Thank you for your continued support in making our school a place of excellence, community, and faith.
To our students: thank you for your energy, your curiosity, and your willingness to grow in my first term here at Brigidine.
To our staff: thank you for your commitment and care. You model the Brigidine spirit in all you do—for our students and for each other. Your impact extends far beyond the curriculum.
As we enter these sacred days of Holy Week, may we take time to reflect on the meaning of the cross—not only as a symbol of sacrifice, but as a reminder of the hope that follows. Easter reminds us that even in moments of pain or uncertainty, light always returns.
May the break be one of rest, renewal, and peace. May we return next term ready once again to live out the legacy of St Brigid with courage, compassion, strength and gentleness. I wish everyone a Happy and Holy Easter and a student vacation.
Thank you all, and God bless.

Save the Date – Ex-Students’ Gathering
We are delighted to announce an ex-students’ gathering on Saturday 4th May. This is a wonderful opportunity for past students to reconnect and share their experiences.
For any enquiries regarding ex-students, please contact Dianne Mullin (President, Brigidine College Ex-Students Association, e: diannemullin@bigpond.com)
Dear Brigidine Community,
The BCR Ex-Students Association would like to let you know about our Annual Afternoon tea and fundraiser that is held at the College on the first Sunday in May each year. Alumni from all years at the school are welcome to attend to catch up with peers, share some stories and tour the school. At present, we are aiming to increase our database so that we can contact a wider range of ex-students; and to this end we would ask that you share the following with any ex-students of the College that you know, if possible.
This is a link to a Google form, the information will not be shared but will inform the Association for future events.
We also have a new Facebook group, search "Brigidine Randwick Ex-Students Community". All information for the Afternoon tea and fundraising will be posted to this group.
St Brigid's Basket was an initiative of the Association as a means of supporting current students at the College whose families may be experiencing financial hardship - please see the flyer below and share with Ex-Students if appropriate:
Please email Charlotte Buxton: cmbuxton66@gmail.com with any enquiries regarding the above.
