115 people have entered the Mazenod Old Boys Footy Tipping Competition for 2025. Thank you for your support.
Â
An even more abridged opening round is over with 11 people getting off to a flyer and picking both winners, 62 people splitting the games and 42 people (including me) already wondering why they bother. đ
Â
The season proper gets underway this Thursday:
Â
Richmond v Carlton
I donât think there will be too many wins for Richmond this year, but they have some great young talent to develop. Carlton has a few injuries but should be too strong;
Â
Hawthorn v Essendon
Hawks got off to a great start beating Sydney and will fancy their chances against Essendon who tend to flatter to deceive. Interestingly Essendon has won the last two games between these sides played at the MCG;
Â
Geelong v Fremantle
A big test for both sides who would each have top four aspirations. Fremantle has beaten Geelong the last two games between these sides played at GMHBA Stadium;
Â
Sydney v Brisbane
A replay of last yearâs Grand Final. I would hope this will be a lot closer. Sydney got off to a poor start and will be desperate not to start the season with two losses. While Brisbane beat Sydney at the SCG in 2022 overall their record at the SCG isnât great;
Â
Western Bulldogs v North Melbourne
A big chance for North to pull off an early season upset with the Bulldogs missing a few of their stars;
Â
Collingwood v Port Adelaide
Collingwood were made to look very ordinary against GWS. Port has won one of the last five games played between these sides at the MCG;
Â
Adelaide v St Kilda
If Adelaide are any chance to make the eight this year, they simply must win these types of games;
Â
Melbourne v GWS
GWS has won three of the last four games played between these sides at the MCG and got off to a great start at home last week. Thatâs probably why they are slight favourites in this game; and
Â
West Coast v Gold Coast
Itâs 2-2 at Optus Stadium between these sides over the last four encounters. Both sets of supporters would be going into this game with some real hope, who is going to leave disappointed?
Â
