Mazenod Junior Tennis Team at the Herb Edwards Tennis Competition:

On Thursday, 6 March, the Mazenod Junior Tennis Team competed in the Herb Edwards Tennis Competition, hosted by Tennis West at the Mt Lawley Tennis Club. The team faced off against five other schools in what turned out to be a thrilling day of competitive tennis.

The team gave it their all throughout the event, with some exciting matches that showcased their skill, determination and sportsmanship. Despite a challenging day in hot conditions, the Mazenod boys secured 3 wins, narrowly missing out on a spot in the finals. While the competition was fierce, the team displayed remarkable resilience and teamwork, putting up a strong fight in every match.

A huge congratulations to the team for their hard work and dedication on the court. We look forward to seeing even greater things from them in future tournaments. Well done, boys!

ACC Senior Basketball Competition:

On Thursday 6 March, the College Senior Basketball team competed in the ACC Competition at Warwick Stadium, with a team of Year 11 and 12 students and one Year 10.

We started the day with a convincing win against Carmel and followed it up with a hard-fought win against a physical Foundation College team. Cooper D put all his athleticism on display, and he was enjoying himself.

We then took care of St George’s and played a big, spirited side in Carey Baptist who surprised us early, but we were able to regroup and take the win.

Then it was time to face our stiffest competition in the form of Aranmore College. Both teams were undefeated going into the final game of the day and a big crowd was on hand to watch, including St Brigid’s, who were fresh from their competition win. We’d hoped we could mirror their success.

It was a very cagey contest which saw Odin, Sam and Cooper battling as hard as they could, whilst Ivan provided a presence with countless steals and even a few lay-ups. The confidence was contagious as now “Sniper” Kano couldn’t miss and if he did, Aiden and Kye were there to clean up the miss. Callan would also stun the crowd with his shooting ability.

Unfortunately, Mazenod couldn’t quite get the job done, but we gave it our all, as Aranmore were just too good on the day.

What a fantastic display of skill, sportsmanship and evidence that Basketball is in good hands at our school. I am proud of the way the team represented the College with skill, sportsmanship and cheer circles after every game. They battled heat, blisters, cramps and tough competition and they showed resilience and togetherness the whole day. A big thank you to Mr Mason and Mr Websdale for their hard work and to the parents who came down to support the team.
