🎓Careers

What’s Happening in Careers?
TISC will open on 3 June.
Early Offers will start after the Semester One exams and most offers are conditional on meeting requirements. These will be laid out in their offer letters. The first round of Year 12 Early Offers will be on Monday 1 September, followed by Monday 22 September, Monday 13 October, Monday 24 November, and Wednesday 3 December.
Your TISC application is your Early Offer application – you will automatically be considered for your first preference. Most Early Offers will be made based on Year 11 results.
We have TISC coming to present on 6 May and I will run sessions with the boys on completing their preferences following their Semester 1 exams.
If students are intending to apply for university, they will need to apply through TISC. Registration is online and a fee of $95 is payable before they can set up their preferences. These preferences can be changed as many times as they like before the offers round.
Offers will be out before Christmas.
University Information
The universities have all listed their Open Days (see below under Year 12) – put them on the calendar now! The boys must get on campus and ask lots of questions before they make final decisions.
The universities will be at Mazenod to provide information to the boys in MyPath sessions and will attend our Mazenod MyPath Careers Expo on 24 June. Year 12 students will also have the opportunity to book individual consultations with university course advisors on campus here on 9 August.
WAAPA
On Friday 21 March at lunchtime a representative from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts at Edith Cowan University will present to interested students about opportunities available to study Performing Arts. In 2026 WAAPA moves from Mt Lawley to its new location in the heart of the CBD. It will be a very exciting time for current students and those joining in 2026!
Medicine and Dentistry
There are a few more requirements for students planning to apply for medicine. These students have been asked to let me know their intentions so that I can make sure they get the information they need. There are several options to study in this field, so it is worth coming in to see me to discuss these.
MyFuture Resource
Students have access to My Future Resources. There is a wealth of information on this site, where students can explore in depth to find out more about the careers and industries they are interested in. It has job seeker resources like resume and cover letter templates, tips for writing cover letters and job applications, and preparing for job interviews, as well as information for parents and carers to help you support your child to learn about the world of work and explore careers.
Sign up and explore at myfuture.edu.au
Year 10
The Year 10 students have all logged into MyFuture and completed profiling activities to identify areas of strength and interest and how these might make them a good fit for particular career areas. They have also had an opportunity to explore several industries through the online resources. Ask them about this and have a look with them! In our MyPath Session this week Curtin and Murdoch universities presented information to the boys on university life, and the courses that they offered.
Year 11
Next week in the MyPath session the Year 11 group will be split into university and General/VET groups. The university-bound students will have a presentation from Curtin and Edith Cowan Universities on understanding the language around applying for courses, the course-switching process, and where to find information on entry requirements and prerequisites.
The General/VET group have a presentation from Mrs Johnson about apprenticeships and VET.
Year 12
We have been very busy conducting interviews with our Year 12 cohort. We are aiming to speak to all Year 12s by the end of the term and help them with planning for next year. Ask your son if they have had a conversation with Mr Tuohy, Mrs Johnson, or Mrs Paduano yet, and ask them about what they are considering. The next few months will be a busy time for university Open Days – I hope to see lots of the boys there!
