Hello BNWPS Families,
I’m excited to be stepping into the role of Disability Inclusion Leader at our school! With 10 years of experience as a classroom teacher, I’ve always been passionate about wellbeing and creating an inclusive environment where all students can thrive. I’m looking forward to bringing this passion to my new role and to continue working with students, families, and staff to support every learner.
At Brunswick North West we are moving into a new way of supporting our students with additional needs through a new mode of funding called Disability Inclusion. This approach puts teachers at the forefront of ensuring that every student has equal access to the curriculum and the opportunity to succeed in school.
As part of this new model, teachers will document the daily adjustments they make in their classrooms to support students with additional needs. This ongoing process involves collecting a minimum of10 weeks of evidence, collaborating with allied health professionals and specialist staff, and incorporating their recommendations to tailor teaching strategies. At the end of this journey, there will be a comprehensive 2-hour interview involving a department representative, the classroom teacher, parents or caregivers, and, when appropriate, the student.
We are aware that there are currently long wait times for scheduling these interviews, in the meantime, we are taking part in teacher training and streamlining the evidence collection process to ensure that all students are supported. If we believe it is appropriate for your child, we will be in touch with further details.
We are committed to ensuring every child at Brunswick North West thrives, and this new funding model is an important step toward making that a reality. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment for all.
