YEAR 7 Camp

Happy Valley Homestead

Our Year 7 campers had a brilliant time filled with adventure at Valley Homestead.

This year's camp had two main focuses: Friendship and Independence. Students were encouraged to think about teamwork, acceptance, and empathy, while also planning, organising, and taking responsibility. Those who excelled were awarded the prestigious "Vest of Independence" and the equally coveted "Pants of Friendship." Yes, you read that right – pants! These fashion-forward items are worn with pride by our budding leaders and role models.

The students completed their team building activities with vigour and unmatched focus. Whether it was the lack of sleep or the hearty hamburgers, their level of engagement and enthusiasm was exceptional.

For the thrill-seekers among us, the abseiling tower was the place to be. They climbed to the top, took in the breathtaking views, and then bravely backed over the edge to descend the 25-meter tower. Talk about a leap of faith!

Our bush skills session was a hit, especially the campfire cooking. Students made damper over the coals, sharing roles like measuring, mixing, kneading, and stick-finding. Some results were more edible than others, but hey, it's all about teamwork and leadership, right?

Archery was another highlight. Students perfected their stances, controlled their breathing, and aimed their arrows with precision. Robin Hood would be proud!

The night walk, led by Mr. Hilderbrand and Mr. Manning, was an adventure into the steep bushland. We navigated blackberry bushes, wombat holes, and challenging terrain, all while soaking in the peace, animal calls, and starry skies. It was magical.

What a wonderful trip it has been! These opportunities are what school life is all about, and we are proud to have created lifelong experiences while fostering connection and empathy among this group.

New friendships were forged, and memories made. This camp is one for the books, and we won't forget it anytime soon.

Thank you to the Year 9 peer leaders Indi Elliott and Miley Heenan. What fantastic role models you are for our young people in the beginning of their high school journey.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated teachers who gave up time away from their families to run this camp: Ms. Tennent, Ms. Bell, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Hilderbrand, Amanda, Ms. Noble, Ms. Reynolds, and Mr. Manning.

We also want to express our gratitude to the families of our Year 7 community for understanding the importance of this camp in beginning your child’s high school journey and entrusting them in our care.
