Mathmatics

This term in Mathematics, students will continue building strong foundations in number by working with numbers beyond 120. They will persist with their understanding of place value by recognising, representing, and ordering numbers using physical and virtual materials, numerals, number lines, and charts, while practicing partitioning one- and two-digit numbers in different ways.
Students will explore skip counting forward and backward by 2s, 5s, and 10s, and develop fluency with counting on, near doubles, and addition/subtraction strategies. Early division concepts will be introduced through practical problems involving equal sharing and grouping, allowing students to use mathematical modelling, diagrams, and calculation strategies to quantify sets of objects. Additionally, students will explore fractions by learning about halves.
In Measurement, students will learn about time by sequencing events, understanding duration, and telling time to the o’clock and half-hour. They will also directly and indirectly compare and order objects using attributes of length, mass, and capacity, communicating their reasoning as they go. Within Space, students will make, compare, and classify familiar 2D shapes and 3D objects, identifying similarities and differences in the environment and engaging in visualisation activities.
Throughout the term, learning will be supported through hands-on and engaging activities to build confidence and understanding.
