Road Safety

Crossing at a School-Supervised Children’s Crossing
The following are simple steps to ensure you and your children safely use supervised controlled children’s crossings.
When approaching a Supervised Children’s Crossing, stop back from the edge of the kerb. Ensure you hold your child’s hand, especially if they are 10 years of age or younger.
Wait for the supervisor to direct you to cross.
Keep your eyes on the traffic and supervisor whilst crossing.
If you are on a bike, skateboard or scooter, get off the vehicle and wheel/carry it across the road.
Bicycle Helmets
Recent NSW statistics show that two-fifths (39%) of children cyclists injured were not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Studies show helmet use decreases the risk of head injury by 86% and brain injury by 89%. Your child must wear a helmet when riding a bike in any public place, it’s the law. The helmet must comply with Australian and New Zealand standards and needs to be securely fitted and fastened on your child’s head. It should be buckled firmly so it fits without wobbling or slipping to the sides.
Always remember to check that your child is wearing a helmet whenever they’re playing or riding on wheels:
• Bikes
• Foot scooters
• Roller Skates
• Skateboards
• Rollerblades
