Visual Arts Term 2

What a fun and busy term we have had in Visual Arts!

We began the term with artworks inspired by Anzac Day, creating a collaborative display for our school community to recognise and reflect on the significance of the occasion. Foundation to Year 2 students experimented with a variety of printing tools to create vibrant poppy artworks, while Year 3–6 students explored accordion folds and optical illusions to create moving artworks. If you didn’t have the chance to see the display, please enjoy the photos below.

Next, our budding artists worked with a special person in mind, carefully considering the audience for their artwork as they created a gift for someone important in their lives.

  • Foundation students created fingerprint glass magnets.

  • Year 1–2 students took on the challenge of wrapping and coiling fabric-covered cord to create unique magnets. We were incredibly proud of their persistence and creativity.

  • Year 3–4 students practised their weaving skills using felt to make a coaster for their special person.

  • Year 5–6 students worked hard to create flower-inspired magnets. With camp falling within our timeframe, they demonstrated excellent focus and adaptability to complete their projects.

Our students then embraced the challenge of creating collaborative artworks for the Trivia Night Silent Auction. Each year level contributed a piece, and it was wonderful to see every student’s individual contribution come together to create something truly special. These artworks focused on the elements of colour, pattern and shape. We hope you enjoyed them as much as we did, and that the successful bidders have found a special place to display them.

As if we hadn’t achieved enough already, we finished the term by investigating self-portraits and exploring the importance of proportion when drawing faces. Students carefully observed facial features and their placement to create thoughtful self-portraits. We hope you enjoy viewing the photos of both the process and final artworks. Additional displays can be found in the hallways near the Year 3/4 classrooms.

Our Foundation students also explored colour theory by creating colour wheel turtles using oil pastels. They learnt how the primary colours—red, blue and yellow—can be mixed to create the secondary colours of orange, green and purple.

To finish the term, our youngest artists were introduced to “Larry the Line.” Students learnt about different types of lines, including horizontal, vertical, diagonal and curved lines. Using watercolour paints, they experimented with creating lines before searching for “Larry” within their artwork and adding patterns to enhance their designs.

Throughout the term, students developed their understanding of the Visual Arts elements and principles, while exploring a variety of materials, techniques and processes to express their ideas creatively. We are incredibly proud of the creativity, effort and enthusiasm demonstrated by all of our students.

We hope you enjoy viewing some of the photos showcasing both the creative process and the wonderful artworks completed throughout the term.
